I know that links going from an outside page to your site helps your ratings a lot.
I also read that links from your site going out to similar content sites also helps. Is this true? It's not commom sense to me.
Thanks Kevin C.

Hi Kevin,
It is true, outbound links are an important factor in your page rank when it comes to link popularity. The best plan of action for you to take is to link to sites that are ranked higher than your own and most importantly within your web site's theme.
It all goes down to the fact that the purpose of the internet is to exchange information and by giving your visitors the opportunity to follow a link from your site to further quality resources will give your site a boost.

One question:
If I did that I would probably want to make a "Links" page, but I think I read somewhere this is not good for some reason and even could bring a penalty from some engines. Is that BS?
But on whole you think a links page going to other relevant sites could boost your own site for rankings etc?
Thanks

Kevin, I don't believe that you having a links page going to other sites will boost your own rankings. On the other hand, I don't believe it will hurt yours either. The purpose of your links page is to give your viewers/readers, etc., valuable links to information that may be of importance to them. If you know of these kinds of sites, by all means, link to them!

Kevin,
I've never been a great fan of links pages. As Jill said they are only there to help your readers but a basic links page will not boost your sites rankings.
The only way to increase your web sites overall standing is to place the links within your content. It's not everybody's first choice but it works a lot better than a links page.
