What about Google backlinks? or backlinks from other engines?
Are there any concrete examples of a site being listed in your directory and showing up as a link to that site in Google (or others)?

I still need to look at backward links but I do see that it comes up on related links.

Okay! GoGuides does come up in the backlinks.
Here are two examples that give an added reason to submit to GoGuides.Org:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=link:http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ea1%2Drentals%2Ecom%2F
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=link%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.allautoreviews.com
Hope the info helps dvduval.

Hey, that's great!
...and what I've learned from this latest Google update is that the depth of the listing in the directory can play a major role in whether or not the backlink is worthwhile.
The Reason: the lower you get in the directory structure, the lower the PageRank, and hence, the lower the importance. This is also true in other directories like Yahoo and DMOZ.
Back to the topic: Putting your listing in GoGuides will:
1. help Google to find your site
2. possibly help Google to consider your site to be important
No reason why everybody shouldn't take the time to submit to GoGuides!

Here's two more reasons:
3. will give your site another link thus help in popularity linking
4. will appear as a backlink in google

I did some playing and have some more information on submitting to GoGuides and getting listed into Google.
I submitted a site that I knew had not been submitted anywhere else and wouldn't be for some time to GoGuides.Org on March 14, 2002. I checked Google today, April 29th, and found the site was now included in the SE's database.
All in all it took about a month and a half. Not too bad.

Hope the info helps.

If you know for sure that there are no other links anywhere to that domain then that is very good news!

Thanks for the info, it helps to be reminded to do the "little things" for our sites.

How long can you expect to wait to get listed on GoGuides?

Hi Climber,

parklandgrain.com is the domain that was submitted just a few days ago. I couldn't find a time estimate posted on their site, just wondering how long it takes for them to index new submissions.

It usually only takes a day or two for the busier topics. Many times it is sooner. As a general rule, a site usually is accepted faster if the submission guidelines are followed. It is less work for the guide reviewing the site when the description is already properly entered.
I took a look for the site you mentioned.
It shows that it was submitted to GoGuides on 15 May 2002 13:53:56 (at the server's timezone) and reviewed by one of the guides at 16 May 2002 14:52:51. Looks like it took about a day.
It may be found here: http://www.goguides.org/index.php/viewCat/1730
The description is as follows:
Parkland Grain Ltd.
Exportor of buckwheat to world-wide markets. Includes company profile, buckwheat information and growing advantages.

Joeant and GoGuides have been very quick evaluating submissions so far, but I've heard that a third of submissions are under "spam quarantine." If you've ever had to edit a directory, especially in a marketing-related topic, you learn to hate the spammers.

Relating spam to the thread issue of GoGuides.Org and Google backlinks, if a site is quarantined by GoGuides.Org, it is put in an area not crawled by Google.

And crawl7 showed today. :) Bless google with all our heart..

FYI - That's what a good search engine will do. It will visit your site on a regular basis and request a large number of pages, perhaps spread out over a period of a few days. This is the search engine being "polite" and trying not to overburden your server all at once.

And for those that might be wondering the goguides database is also being crawled by inktomi.
They crawled us today. Bless them too!
1101 j5005.inktomisearch.com
inktomi feeds: Hotbot, iWon, AOL search, Snap, GOO.jp, Looksmart, MSN Search and Goto. Also has dozens of customers in Europe and the Far East.
Someone please correct me if those inktomi feeds are no longer correct...

Should be up. One of our guides in Mexico said the same thing, but I was working fine at the same time. Could be a routing thing I guess.
zag, good find on noticing the ink crawl.
