Well nothing is confirmed yet, but I have it from a solid source that a Search Engine Strategies Conference will probably be held in Sydney mid year (think June).
I'll keep everyone posted...

Just to let everyone know, a Sydney SES has now been confirmed for mid June. Below is an extract from Danny's latest newsletter:
---------------------------
Finally, for those of you "Down Under," we do expect that Search Engine Strategies will be coming to Sydney in mid-June of this year. I'll send a conference URL as soon as it is available. In the meantime, if there are particular topics you'd like to see covered, feel free to send me feedback.
--------------------------
If anyone has questions about the Conference or just wants to chat about it - post here and we can get things rolling.

Yes, very good,
Kal, I must have chucked out my newsletter eek.. I have no time to read etc!.
could you please forward copy.
My first thought is that the whole area of "regional" needs to be addressed. In many areas we are disadvantaged by not being in the US. This sort of session would apply to NZ UK and etc.

Yep, I agree with you there Excell. I also think it's important to recognise that the Australian and NZ markets for SEO are at least a year or 2 behind the U.S. In my experience, SEO is pretty much considered geek tech-speak or unheard of around here. Hopefully this Confererence will lead the change.

Calling all Aussie & Kiwi forumites!
Things are really ramping up for the Search Engine Strategies Conference in Sydney on June 11/12. If you haven't seen it yet, info and a tentative agenda is available from here:
http://www.australia.internet.com/events/ses02/
Anyone who is interested in attending or sponsoring should fill out that "keep me updated" form on the site. I'm definitely going along so if any of you plan to come, please post here so I can get an idea of forum numbers and let the organisers know - thanks!
<edit>if you are planning to attend and would like to have a get together before during or after the Conference - let me know and we can arrange a forum gathering at a local watering hole  </edit>

Groovy! I think we'll keep our Forum get together separate from the usual suspe.. I mean Conference attendees :D Haven't confirmed where or when the get together will be yet, but I am thinking maybe the night before (Monday 10th) or Sunday 9th? Depends on where everyone will be.
I think we should start at a local pub and make our way to one of Chinatown's fantastic restaurants - either the Regal for Chinese or maybe even that fun Japanese Teppanyaki (however you spell it!) restaurant where they do amazing tricks with the food as they cook it at your table. What do you think?

HI Kal;
Do you know how to get more information on the conference?
I looked at the website, wondered who was speaking on keyword research so sent an email with the question to the more information address on the website. No reply to that or a subsequent email.

Hey Mel - I've asked Danny about speakers so I'll let you know. I originally suggested they have a Keyword Research session, so maybe they've just included it as a tentative thing or maybe they've organised a speaker, I'm not sure. I'll PM you the name of the main organiser.
cheers

Just a heads up for all those attending SES Sydney. We are attempting to obtain a Group Discount at the Mercure Hotel Lawson which is a 10 min stroll to Darling Harbour and 15 mins from the Conference. Internet price is AUD120 per double (inc full buffet breakfast for 2) but we may get a cheaper rate if we can book a group. Details on the hotel are here (http://www.accorhotels.com.au/hotdeals/detail.asp?id=587&location=Sydney&brand=Mercure)
Any of you who would be interested in staying at the Lawson, please PM or email me so I can get a good idea of group numbers.
Also, I'm trying to arrange a dinner get together for all forum buddies after the Conference C-o-c-ktail party on the 11th. At this stage it looks like a meal in Chinatown from about 7.30 or so. Anyone interested in attending, let me know so I can book.
silly filter didn't like my party description

Just a quick update on the Sydney hotel situation. Unfortunately, group bookings at the Hotel Lawson were unable to give us a cheaper rate than the Hot Deal already advertised on their web site (AUD 120 per room inc buffet breakfast). So if you want to book, I suggest booking the Hot Deal via their web site here (http://www.accorhotels.com.au/hotdeals/detail.asp?id=587&location=Sydney&brand=Mercure) Hope to see some of you there!

For those forum members staying at the Hotel Lawson - when you check in, make sure you drop a business card at the desk for me with your room number on it and I'll make sure to contact you. At this stage most of us will be arriving Monday afternoon and we might get together for late drinks or something.
I am going to book a table at the East Ocean Chinese Restaurant under the name "Kal" for dinner on Tuesday night after the c-o-c-ktail party. I'll make the booking for 7.30pm but it might be later by the time we craw.. uh walk over there. ;) Hope to see a few of you there - first round of drinks on me!

For those who missed the Sydney Conference (or those who attended and want copies of the presentations) - I thought I'd post a link to the SES Sydney site where they have all the presentations freely available for download. Just browse the agenda and click on the presentation you're interested in. The link is here (http://australia.internet.com/events/ses02/)

Those presentations are a powerful tool for site owners and SEOs
It's the good stuff.
Hopefully all copyright & useage notices will be adhered to.

Hmmm...I'm surprised they're making them freely available. I can see that they would be for attendees, but everyone? That's kind of surprising.

Yeah, I was surprised by that too. But they are there for the download and I'm sure there are a lot of forumites who wanted to attend but just couldn't spare the time/cash. As long as copyright is adhered to, as excell says, it's good free information. I'm sure if Internet.com didn't want them freely available, they would've nipped it in the bud, but so far, either they haven't noticed or just don't mind ;)
