View Full Version : Inktomi losing partnerships

With the upcoming purchase of WiseNut by LookSmart, it appears that eventually Inktomi results will be phased out of LS in favor of WiseNut results. It also sounds like (according to today's Search Engine Watch update), that HotBot will be soon phasing out Inktomi, in favor of FAST results. Since Terra Lycos owns HotBot and partners with FAST, this makes sense.

So what's left for Inktomi. Just MSN? Luckily for them, MSN is a biggie. If they lose that one, they would be in deep doo-doo. I imagine Position Tech would also be in it. I wonder if they have any new partnerships on the horizon.

The good thing is that these various partnerships means all kinds of differing databases and differing results from all the major players. That's a good thing!

Change is good...

Inktomi still supplies results to AOL which brings me much more traffic then Hotbot and Lycos...

It also backs up Overture which is good for a few hits as well as appearing at Freeserve, which is good if you sell valentine gifts or flowers or something. Not quite on its way out yet, but the more options people have, the better. SEO is dead. Long live SEO.

Ah yes, AOL...I knew there was another big one, but I just couldn't think of it at the time.

Not any more - they've gone to Overture & Google!

I lost 20% of my UK Ink traffic through that move on some sites - ouch :(

Interested to see how Ink strikes back - any bets on a Yahoo take up when time for renewal comes (this summer I think)?

I'm thinkin no. I'm thinking Google will go for their adwords to be displayed on Yahoo as well and trying to unseat Overture from it.

I personally think that Google is the only thing that makes yahoo worth going to these days. So if they went to Ink, I think it would not be good for them. I've really never found Inktomi to have the best results, I'm sorry to say.

MMT, when did Freeserve go to Google ? I missed that completely, I'm afraid.
