InfoSpace's Metasearch Solutions and Distributed to the InfoSpace Network of Users and Affiliates
BELLEVUE, Wash. & EMERYVILLE, Calif., March 19, 2002-- InfoSpace, Inc.
Nasdaq:INSP), a provider of wireless and Internet software and application services, and Ask Jeeves Web Properties, a division of Ask Jeeves, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASKJ), a leading provider of natural language question answering technologies and search services, today announced a new search agreement.
Ask Jeeves'® Click Popularity Search and Related Search technologies are now included within InfoSpace's metasearch products, which simultaneously search multiple search engines to gather and display the most relevant results. InfoSpace metasearch products power search results at Dogpile and MetaCrawler, as well as the Excite.com portal,
among other Web sites.
"Today's agreement is further evidence of our commitment to enhance our search results," said York Baur, InfoSpace executive vice president, wireline and broadband. "We are focused on providing users with results from many of the Web's leading search engines. Ask Jeeves' search technologies bring additional relevant results and useful tools to our metasearch solutions, helping to creating an even more efficient and comprehensive experience for users and affiliates."
Ask Jeeves' Click Popularity Search aggregates and organizes online content by tracking the products, services and information people seek, the amount of time they spend at various Web sites, and how frequently they return. This information is then used in a ranking algorithm to
further refine results displayed. The company's Related Search is a tool used in connection with a user's primary search. Related Search increases user satisfaction by offering suggestions to broaden or narrow a search.
"This relationship validates our strategy of distributing our search results through our extensive keyword network, which includes some of the most popular sites on the Web. InfoSpace's metasearch products deliver search results to a broad Web audience, which makes them ideal to work with," said Steve Berkowitz, president of Ask Jeeves Web
Properties. "Our search products provide a nice balance between relevancy and monetization, allowing our partners to offer relevant search results in a profitable and efficient way."
