Some spammers have a sweet way of revenging themselves on people who discuss their nasty spamming ways:

They add your email address to email petitions to the US government!

This uses YOUR name to spam US elected representatives, and in return, you get spammed by auto-responders, irate Senators and the FBI!

One of them was kind enough to let me have the original as she received it.

Subject: Petition: Make Mardi Gras a Holiday

The following is the result of an Internet-based form submitted on

email = my email@*******.***

Name = Andrew

Petition =

Whereas the rest of the country is gripped by winter doldrums and the go-to-work-in-the-mornin' blues; And whereas there isn't a major, national holiday between President's Day and Memorial Day, nothing fun anyway; And whereas New Orleans spends the entire Mardi Gras Day partying anyway; And whereas purple, green and gold are such fun colors; And whereas we think it's only fair that the rest of the country be allowed to share in the revelry; We, the undersigned, do petition the Congress and President to join together in a non-partisan proclamation declaring Mardi Gras Day a National Holiday! Laissez les bon temps rouler and make Mardi Gras a National Holiday!

Naughty people!

Correction - NOT the people I thought it was; an unfortunate similarity in their names! However, I'll leave the thread, as I'd like the FBI to know that I will help them in any way I can ;).

Adding names of enemies to mailing lists is common, as well as childish - but in this case, it may involve law breaking -so if you get irate letters from senators - DON'T delete; keep for evidence. And wait for the Feds to call.
