Here's a quick tip for those of you who really like to track your incoming e-mail.
Our e-mail system is set to recognize an alias by the name of nobody. When I set up new hosting accounts, one of the first things we do is take care of e-mail. All sites get an alias of nobody. The nobody address captures all incorrectly addressed e-mail and forwards to whomever the client specifies.
How do I use this to my advantage? Well, when I want to register for a one time service online or I'm submitting to a lesser SE who will probably spam me, I give them their own unique e-mail addresses. An example might be...
sygate@mydomain com
I also use it with clients and prospects. More with prospects because my clients have access to contact me. Let's say that ABC Company contacts me about internet marketing strategies. We exchange information and I give them a contact e-mail address of abc@mydomain com. I can effectively track all incoming communication from this prospect due to the incoming e-mail address.
Yes, I know, I could also track it by the from address. But, if that user has multiple e-mail accounts I then have the issue of looking for not one, but two or more from addresses. Get my point?
