Rather bizarrely, I just went to Google.com and before I even got type a URL in, I received a captionless window with "Updating Comet Cursor". Not on my PC yer not I thought but because it was captionless I had to ALT-CTRL-DEL to remove the entire browser from my tasklist.

This seems a rather odd thing from the Google web site. Any thoughts?

Something similar happened to me. I found out that when my daughter was visiting one time, she had loaded a program called "comet cursor".

It is software that does a bunch of funny things to the puter. One thing is it changes your cursor to many things.

It was VERY hard to uninstall. Don't think I have it completely out yet, but what you describe is much like it.

Oh no. I know what Comet Cursor is and all of its dirty little stealth spy routines. What I couldn't figure out is why it suddently appeared on the Google site. Perhaps that was just coincidence.

That comet cursor is quite amazing how it always ends up back on ones computer. Apparently it's very easy to unwittingly install it. My kids have all installed it at various times on our computers. In fact, I just found the damn thing on my laptop again yesterday. I simply uninstalled it from the windows uninstall options. I'm assuming that did the trick. Interestingly enough, my husband (who is by no means a dummy) also unwittingly installed it on his work computer. You gotta wonder about a company who's business model is to trick people into installing it.

And now we know that Doug has a daughter! What else have ya got, Dougie? Any more kids? Wives? Ex-Wives? Ex-husbands? <g> 'Fess up!

Yes, you would think that uninstalling it does actually uninstall it wouldn't you? Not so. It leaves a trail in the registry so that the next time you jump on the web it is back again. Nice business practise...

The well-known utility Ad Aware will get rid of Comet Cursor very thoroughly including registry entries etc. :)
Until the next time you visit a site and it invites itself on to your PC :(

Wow, you've been divorced nearly as long as I've been married!

And you've been single all these years? No live-in sweetie? Surely you must frequent those South Carolina beaches with someone!

Mazy,

You got a heavy work load today? (Judging from the Avatar of the day!)

By the way, I found your book in the public toilet the other day. Once I erase my phone number from the stall, I'm sure it will be a good read.

What have you been told about leaving your phone number here, there and everywhere? Shameful. Positively shameful!
