The Open Directory Project Meta Community announced the launch of the new ODP Public Forum, sponsored by members of the ODP Community.
The new suite of forums is an additional, channel of communication where the general public can interact with ODP editors, and where direct questions about submissions, listings, placement, becoming an editor, and other dmoz questions and issues can be addressed. The Forum is moderated by the ODP
Meta Editors Community, and will require a registration for posting
messages, with specific acceptance of the Forum Guidelines. The public can in any case read the Forum without registering.

Didn't take long for ODP flames to start.

Why the OPD flames?
Are peoples having problems with OPD? If so, inquiring webmasters want to know how to avoid problems if possible.

HI Rackerz:
There are lots of problems with ODP as perceived by users, and there are a very vocal group (I suspect mostly ex DMOZ editors) who seem to devote most of their waking hours to flaming ODP. Some have even started up websites so as to be able to flame unimpeded.
The problems ODP have are with the long (sometimes very long) time it takes to get listed, and to a lesser degree with title and description changes.
The ODP fourm that this thread is about is the ODP editors start at addressing both the problems and the PR associated with it.
My experience with the OPD public forum has been quite good, and I have even seem some users problems solved on the spot.

I can see why people would be upset at OPD.
I've been trying to get my two business sites (ProtecFinancial.com & AtmScrip.com) listed for over a year.
Any words of wisdom other than what I've already been told on this? (which was submit once only, and hope they list you)

You probably should have started a new thread for this . . .
In any case, where did you submit? Neither one of your sites has been reviewed yet.

I went and checked and I haven't yet submitted the Protec site to OPD, although I thought I had (I've sumitted to others)
I do know that I've submitted the AtmScrip.com site twice to the category:

I went to the OPD board once to inquire and they said it was in que, just be patient. That was months ago.

Your site is waiting to be reviewed in a rather smallish queue. According to our records it was submitted/resubmitted on Jan 12th.

Yeah, I went back recently and re-submitted it after seeing some guy say (on SitePoint forums) this was the thing to do after a few months if it hadn't been listed.
I tried to get on to help OPD out, but they turned me down. I guess my write up about why I wanted to be an editor didn't go over well.
Anyway, thank for checking on this.
I'll wait a couple of months and see if it gets listed.
