Ink To Pay or not to Pay

Question?

I have a top 10 ranking with INK (not paid regular spidered) Now if I go to PT and pay will this effect rankings? Asking cause I wanted to tweak to increase rankings but no 48 hour refresh since it is not paid?

How long is the refresh for non paid?

Hey Opt, I hear it can take a long time for a non paid page to be updated. I have heard (in WMW) of descriptions still being there from a 2-3 year old version of the site. So I guess if you're wanting to tweak paying may be a good idea.

On the other hand I, have also heard that if you have free pages in Ink and then you pay for a page (from the same domain) you loose all your free ones. The jury's still out on whether this does happen but it's worth keeping in mind.

In the interview I had with Barry (our own MakeMeTop), he said this doesn't happen. But of course, he's only speaking for his knowledge of what's happened with the numerous pages he's submitted.

The discussion of pages being dropped was in WMW. As you said some say it doesn't happen and some swear it does. I guess whether you pay to submit depends more on how badly you want pages refreshed regularly.

And, I fail to understand why you would wish to pay for something you are already ranked for free in?

Please enlighten me. :)

oh, and wanting to tweak and get 48 hr. refreshes would not be enlightening me. :D

I'm with Jill on this...I have the utmost confidence in MakeMeTop's insight, and from what I remember you will not loose any of the other non-paid pages if you submit a URL into paid indexing by Inktomi. Also I have to agree with the others, what are you doing messing with a top 10 ranking? Not much room to move up, but plenty of room below that!~;)

Yes - don't do it! I would never put in a page which ranks well for free again. You can get shuffled around by being in two indexes and only being pulled from one. Leave well enough alone!

As for the dropping of pages, I've seen the thread at WMW (http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum1/1456.htm) where Ink themselves say this shouldn't happen - but also say that there appears to be a bug where it did happen to some people's sites - but not for many others. This is meant to be fixed in the next update. Indeed, someone there deliberately did a test to see if free pages were dropped after paying and they were not.

As Jill said, I was speaking from my experience and have (touch wood) never had a page dropped on a site which has both free and paid pages.

But be careful of Ink's new spam policy. If you put in a doorway page and it trips Ink's filter - your whole site could be penalized!
