Hello guys and dolls!

It's been six month since I installed the translating dictionary script with a lot of help from you guys:

How to optimize a page with little content? (http://www.ihelpyou.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25310)

Today I want to report the results. During January we had a record number of visitors.

I now have 625 words in the dictionary which multiplied by two (English Spanish) makes for 1,250 pages. The results have been phenomenal, the dictionary outranks the home page for entries!

Pages Entry Cumulative
dictionary 28.1% 28.1%
index 22.4% 50.5%
marinas 12.1% 62.6%
contact 7.1% 69.7%
dinghy-repair 6.1% 75.8%
charter 5.7% 81.5%
cruising-logs 3.3% 84.8%

What is really interesting is that each dictionary page, on average, got only 0.67 hits but there is so many of them that, cumulatively, they still are the top draw. Since the whole thing is MySQL based, it is easy to maintain and update.

One could argue that the dictionary is less focused than, say, the marina directory but even one additional small boat using the facilities pays for the website while the added cost of running the script is practically zero.

Yes, content is king! :thumb:

And iHelpYou.com rocks! :thumb:

Congrats!

I see you took some advice from that thread you linked to. :) I see you have a dictionary site map page as well as the standard search box which enables you to show all separate pages for each word to translate. Good stuff.
