Hi,
Is it good to place keyword in Meta?
Keyword is not an important tag in SEO.
So why we place keyword in Meta and allow competitors to find our targeted keywords and business market with the region of business.
Please place your expert comments...

Keyword is not an important tag in SEO.
Who told you?
Now-a-days search engines like Google may not give importance to Meta Keywords Tag, still there are some Search engines who give importance.
So, how can you say it is not important for SEO as we are not optimizing only for Google.

I always use the key word meta tag. Even if it is not important today with some SEs who knows when it might become important again.
If a competitor knows enough to look at your source code, he will probably be smart enough to figure what keywords you are targeting on the page anyway.

I too still use the keywords meta tag as it was intended to be used.
No reason not to, yet.

So let me know how much amount of traffic you will get through other SE's and only from Google?
You will get 10x from Google.
So it's better to do.

Agree.
But if you consider some of the local directories (who give importance to Meta keywords), then it can affect your conversion as there is always better chance of getting more number of targeted visitors.

Meta tags are information inserted into the "head" area of your web pages. Although SEs no longer give too much importance to meta tags, they are still useful tags on your pages.
ex.
Meta Description tag <META NAME=“DESCRIPTION” CONTENT=“” />
This tag allows you to influence the description of your page in the crawlers that support this tag. Although it is questionable that keyword use in this tag has any influence, whatsoever, in affecting the rankings, it is more important for stimulating user interest and for getting people to click.
Meta Keywords tag <META NAME=“KEYWORDS” CONTENT=“” />
This allows you to provide additional text for crawler-based search engines to index along with your body copy. How does this help you? Well, for most major crawlers, it doesn't. That's because most crawlers now ignore the tag. But this tag is sometimes useful as a way to reinforce the terms you think a page is important for ON THE FEW CRAWLERS THAT SUPPORT IT. The Meta keyword tag is also sometimes useful as a way to help your page come up for synonyms, misspellings or unusual words that don't appear on the page itself.

Hi nalds20,
This thread is all about the importance of meta keywords and you are telling a different story.

I can't agree with you.
Google use your meta description as the description of your site in their SERP and if you are able to give a clear idea about your site in your meta description then you can attract more targeted visitors and again it also a factor (may not be important) for ranking in SERP.
Although SEs no longer give too much importance to meta tags
I don't think so.

The meta description is still useful. The meta keywords tag is not. The meta description isn't rated so much for ranking, but it is used as the basis for the snippet, so you want to craft something that will entice people to click your entry in the SERPs.
