View Full Version : New WebSavvy now LIVE
WebSavvy

Well, after more than 18 months of very hard, very long ... work -- the new WebSavvy just went LIVE. :)
We have 3 different themes now, you can change it using our User Preferences script. It also allows you to change the font colors, font type, and define your own access keys.
We have tons of new things in there -- though some things couldn't be set up until we were able to remove the redirect to our "Down for Maintenance" page. So, those things will be set up over the remainder of the week.
If you spot anything odd, or have a suggestion, please let me know.

Special THANKS goes out to Danny and Irina for all of the hard work, and help!

It looks real good Deb.
I don't understand this though;

The first listing is linking to another type page in the directory. The other two are direct links to the site. I'm getting this. :)

Thanks, Doug. :)
I don't understand this though ...
Sites we've already spidered have a profile page and thus, the directory page link will go to the profile page. Sites we haven't spidered yet, don't have a profile page yet so the directory page link goes to the site itself.
You have a profile page here: http://www.websavvy.cc/profiles.htm?site=ihelpyou.com
Enjoy! ;)

OK, I understand that.
But a listing is in a specific category and then is linking to a profile page using a funny type url with the domain in it. SE spiders might not bother to crawl from that main listing to the profile page. The profile page is the page where the site is actually linked to. Do you see? Why not have both links listed in the first place where the site is categorized under?

The SEs will spider it. They did before when we had the profile pages and many of them had PR3/4 in google.
The reason not to list both on the category page is simple. Sometimes sites become bad. If they're only linked to from their own profile page, and not my category page -- the only page that will suffer is their own profile page and NOT my category page.
I have to keep my category pages but if their site is delisted, their profile page goes with it -- so, no more suffering pages.
Understand now?

I forgot one thing.
In JoeAnt.com we also list the WebSavvy CMS subdomain. This site is not available now. Will it come back online, or is it available elsewhere?

Thanks for the compliments, Hugo. :)
No, the CMS won't be coming back online. I don't have enough time to maintain that, along with everything else. LOL ...

Looks good Deb. The choice of themes is a nice touch.

Thanks Connie. :)
There's a few small browser-specific issues (IE7) that I'm aware of (e.g., overlapping on the H1 cap with the text from the 2nd line & the side scroll) that I'm working with Danny to fix (he has IE7).
Soon as it's fixed we'll put that out on the public side. I just really needed some rest. Boy, was I tired!

Hey thanks, Bill. :)
I finally nailed down the little IE7 bugs too, and will be putting the fixes in on the public side later on tonight.

Wow, I didn't know the directory belonged to you. Then you're quite an important poster here, Deb, aren't you?
I like the look of the directory. It looks like a Wordpress blog. It's nice to see a breath of fresh air instead of the same ol' directory designs that only differ in their logos.
I've always wanted to submit there, but never found a subcategory that I was comfortable with. :( But I'm sure that as you keep getting more submissions, your subcategories will also grow.

Thanks, Stacy. :)
We have tons of subcategories. It's just if there's no listings in it, we have the cat disabled. There's no benefit for anyone in displaying an empty page.
However, all categories and subs can be reached via the add url page.
When a disabled subcategory has a submission made to it, we enable that subcategory first, then review the site and list it (if it's a listable site).
We had far more categories live before. During our 18 month clean-up, Danny, Irina and I have dumped more than 2000 sites from our index because they were bad.
What we have left in the index now are all healthy sites.

I've always wanted to submit there, but never found a subcategory that I was comfortable with.
Let me know if this category: Interior Decorating (http://www.websavvy.cc/directory/shopping.services/services/interior.home.decorating.htm) is suitable or not. If not, please suggest where you'd like your listing moved to.

Ok now, I feel senile. I swear I don't remember posting it there, but I'm happy with my choice (?).
Did you do that for me, Deb?

LMAO @ No, you didn't submit it there and just don't remember.
I indexed it for you. :)
Let me know if that's a good cat, or if you'd like it in another category instead (somewhere in the shopping category).
