I am curious. How could anyone claim that the Overture tool is anywhere near correct?

No way.
If correct for that term, I would be seeing thousands of unique visitors per week on that term. sheesh
oh, type in
search engine optimization
That's bullsh*t.

"88312 adult dvd"
Id imagine if this tool were accurate there would be a lot more searches for this phrase. It is after all one of the biggest industries on the web. Perhaps someone is hiding something?
Also I dont see how some companies pay as much as $2 a click. thats just plain stupid. No one would last at that rate. I think perhaps overture is bidding themselves with money they will never owe them selves in a attempt to up the prices of bids? Or maybe these companies are getting a huge break for spending so much money. 50% or 90% off or something. I just pulled these ideas out of my butt but is it possible? Could Overture be playing us all?

It could be correct if u thinks that automated ranking software queries are counted in the number of searches. Every SEo want to be ranked on "search engine optimisation", then they include it in their ranking report. If these reports are made daily, weekly, the count can grow quick if you consider the number of SEOs and so called SEOs.
Am pretty sure as I verified it on a less popular search term.
The conclusion of this is that being critical is a necessity and SEO can not be automated :)

I still think there would be more then 88,000 searches in a month for "adult dvds". Even if its all just regular browsers looking for product. But maybe I am wrong. Maybe I overestimate the market.

mmmh with kazaa and other P2P software why buy dvds? :D
and perhaps they look for more precise stuff such as "asian xxx orgy" or whatever crazy other speciality :)
