:confused: hi, the task of search optimization writing
( or tweaking) has landed in my lap - as a complete novice any advise on where to start researching this topic will be really welcome especially re keywords

Its a big job thats landed in your lap....... with reference to keywords, i presume you mean locating which ones to use? if so try http://www.wordtracker.com or http://inventory.goto.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
if your concern is keywords in your meta tags then read everything thats been posted in this forum (its quite a new forum so it wont take that long) then just ask, ask and ask again until you get a handle on it

Yep. You have been given a big job. Do as highman says first and read these forums. Surprisingly, there is lots of info in here for such a short period of time.

Oh, ..... When I first started, I found this reference to be very helpful with all the basics of the search engines:

You should check there also supine...
Since there are so many things involved, by getting a start first, you will have many specific questions that you can ask us about.

Hi Supine and welcome to the forum:
Starting from Scratch can be a bit daunting, but before you start make sure you have selected good keywords. I agree with Highman that wordtracker is the definitive source for keywords.
