Hi,
Being a lurker since first finding this great forum a few months ago .. its now time to contribute (well ask for advice).
I have recently launched http://www.usedcarmart.co.uk and added this to inktomi following reading posts here (thanks). For some reason I cannot seem to get any decent listing on the database but am failing drastically. I have had 51 clicks in a month, another site that lets visitors sell their house online has had nearly 700 clicks.
Can anyone shed some light on where I am going wrong. I have changed a few details on the page to see if this makes a difference ... It doesn't really.
Any help greatfully received.
Cheers
Iain

Welcome to the forums photoads! :hi:
You have Much more reading to do as to what is right and what is very wrong.
To be direct, you page is full of spam. Even the white text below is bad. Then, you have a div tag that is hidden that is Full of it.
Clean it all up asap or you will never do well in any search engine.
Besides, you are in one of the toughest markets on the net. I know you were probably led in the wrong direction at some point so it may not be your fault.
Simply make some good, unique content that is visible. Nothing wrong with building a good site that has good, useful content.

Thanks for the reply Doug,
I have made those changes you suggested ... I'm sure I read the div tag idea here on these forums .. (may be wrong)
So do you think I was being penalised? I have just looked at my stats and note that Google is driving good traffic to my site but the rest are struggling.
Google 3,573 92.68%
Lycos 89 2.31%
Look Smart 47 1.22%
AltaVista 42 1.09%
AOL NetFind 35 0.91%
Microsoft Network 33 0.86%
Netscape 16 0.42%
metacrawler 5 0.13%
I will start reading more on optimisation for the inktomi, is there a good overall guide you could point me too? What more do I need to do to the site? The front is dynamic, changing everytime a car is added, does the text at the bottom of the page hinder me?
Cheers and thanks for a great site!

Div tags are fine but you had all the text as invisible. That is not fine.
Here is a good thread discussing Inktomi optimization:

Oh, and Google just not has caught it yet. Ink probably already penalized you.

Thanks Doug,
Just looking through that as we speak. So if I am penalised should I change the name? I do have another car domain www.used-car-classifieds.co.uk this I use for another classifieds site but could point to this new site?
Cheers

Oh no, don't do that as you will get into even more trouble. Simply add content to your site and optimize accordingly. Then, sit back and wait.
