Blocked IPs

I currently have a list of over 200 IPs that have been blocked on spam whackers since July of 07.

The list is in numerical order, and includes Whois information such as net range, country, hostname, organization, and useragent.

The list grows every few days. In July 50 IPs were added.

One thing to keep in mind; I noticed that a bellsouth IP was blocked. I lived in their area for quite a few years and had the same user agent connecting via adsl line. The problem with blocking a IP address for them is that the users IP changes every time they connect. Someone else will have the IP you blocked the next time. That's all; but very nice list. :)

Doug, if a real user connects from a blocked IP they will initially get a 403 error page with an explanation. They can type a word into a box and remove the ban.

In over a year I have only had one user remove a ban.

IPs are blocked automatically because a bot does not obey robots.txt and follows a link a real user never sees. I even use nofollow on the links.

That's why I whitelist all the SE's ahead of my bot traps so they don't get snared if they stray.

That happened before I knew about a white list. Thanks to you and Deb I now use a white list. :)
