Anyone here tried Live's new Webmaster tools (http://webmaster.live.com/)?

They've added some new tools showing you details about crawl errors and backlinks.

Live claims my flagship site has over 631K backlinks while Yahoo claims it's only 183K backlinks so one of them obviously has some accounting errors or a huge variance in accounting methods.

BTW, shouldn't this forum name be LIVE instead of MSN?

They changed quite some time ago...

I guess I have not felt the need to look into the Live thing yet. Maybe some day.

It's not MSN anymore, which is why this forum title it slightly wrong, should be "Live Search Engine" although is still uses the msnbot ;)

FWIW, I thought you would LOVE the Live SE because it has less spam in the index, almost no site hijacking, and blocks most (if not all) software footprint queries used by hackers to locate vulnerable sites.

Too bad it doesn't drive much traffic because they're batting 100% on all the nastier technical issues. I find it distressing that Yahoo ignores more of those and Google, the defacto leader, is playing catchup but runs a close second to Live in those areas.

yeah, I just haven't taken the initiative to change the name yet. And yeah, it drives almost no traffic to speak of, sadly. And yeah, it does good with spam for sure. It is surprising that as big as Microsoft is, they just can't do the search thing for some reason.

I see mixed traffic. Some from MSN, and some from Live. Together I get very little traffic from MSN or Live.

People have been linking to me for the last 12 years and I get 100s of new links per month.

It's the oldest secret on the planet - build something useful and they will link.

I'd be more than happy to if I wasn't taking this semi-retirement thing so seriously and been letting my own sites suffer.

My days are kind of like this one, went to bed about 3am, wife gets me up about 10 and we cruise over the Half Moon Bay for a leisurely lunch, drove up Devil's Slide to Pacifica, back home and now I'm contemplating a nap.
