Huh?
Everyone keeps banging on about article submission, but no one is talking about creating quality and useful content. Instead there's just this mad rush to rehash the same old crap that has been written a million times before, but with more errors and less relevance than the last time. And all because people perceive it's their golden ticket to more links. And that more links means success.
Gimme a break.

Funnily enough I started playing with Wordpress a couple of weeks ago (came with the new server we are just setting up) and threw together a little piece about article directories.

Good writeup Chris. :)
I'd say that about half of the total websites online are crap and useless to the general public or anyone reading them. Maybe more than half.

So is this going to be "Your Permanent Blog"? (Meaning we'll have to be on the lookout for more updates and great articles?) :)

Possibly :)
Not specially impressed with the Wordpress platform though, so it might have to move home on to my own system.

Nice :)!
Although I'm not sure about registering to comment, people would be less inclined to give feedback if that's the case. Unless of course, that's the way you want it....

For now yep :)
I'm still not specially impressed with WP. It doesn't handle posting code snippets without manually editing the < & > etc for a start. There's probably a "plugin" to handle it but as I have my own CMS / blogging system in the final stages of testing/coding before it goes live as a RC version, I'll probably transfer it over to that, so I don't want too much stuff to transfer or convert.
If I can't/don't use my own product why should anyone else want to :)

You mean just copying and pasting code samples onto a post to display various pieces of your choosing to users?
It's why I mostly write my posts using the HTML tab, and not the visual one, so I can see exactly what I'm doing. And it gives a few nice <code> tags in the menu for easy access to work with, for when I write that odd post about various scripts and coding possibilities.
Then again you're product should do exactly what you're looking for, as you know where everything is. It's one of the main reasons why I've decided to build my new Site / CMS (not sure which yet, haven't had much time to work on it) from scratch.

Yep, I obviously write about code and coding predominantly so having a system that works like BBCode is pretty much essential. The WP system just doesn't work for me, but then of course it is not really aimed at that kind of thing.
I could probably root around and find some plugins or even write one myself. But being the PITA type and preferring to have things work in a particular fashion and my own system is written around the requirements of many different clients I have coded for over the past 5 or 6 years and many things I have developed for different sites are all brought into one "super structure".
This can be many things to many people, it has shopping cart capabilities, affiliate products can be integrated with no experience needed and features can be turned on and off by setting a database flag, and it needs zero HTML knowledge to make it work.
First draft for modTalk is at iys.modtalk.co.uk if you want to have a look at the backend let me know. There is still large chunks to finalise and integrate but it keeps moving along :D

BTW
If you have seen me mention the "Smart 404 page" for creating static looking URLs for IIS users.
This system runs on one. :)

Yeah, there's tons of plugins for WP out there, yet none can seem to do "exactly" what you want them to do. Just a quick search (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=bbcode) brings up this type of Syntax Highlighting plugin for example (Not the greatest, but WP wasn't really implemented for general web development in mind, IMO, it's for blogging):
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/syntaxhighlighter/
Something about WP I've always wanted to see is code highlighting (Notepad++ style) for the Theme and Plugin Editors on the server side, it would make finding and modifying snippets of Code MUCH quicker and easier, yet nothing like that exists for it.
Nice 404 page too, but don't remember you discussing one anywhere, well from the threads I've read anyway. Mine just redirects to the site's homepage.
Also, is your product open source? It'll just be interesting to see what you come up with :).

I've just finished writing a ASP RSS feed system ( couldn't find one, so I wrote one :) )
iys.modtalk.co.uk/feed/rss/ no links please.
Just need to make sure it's all hunky dory for other readers. Firefox handles it ok but I don't "do" any RSS reading so I have nothing to check it with.
I've also posted this elsewhere so I am a cross forum spammer :D

At least the URL rewriting with the 404 page will "go public" and possibly the RSS feed class because I couldn't find any other code for creating feeds in ASP.
I'll decide on the whole thing being OS somewhere "down the road", There are several thousand lines of code to go through and tidy up or improve before that happens.

Hi, There are a lot of article submission websites out there. Recently I have discovered this great new site [url removed]. This site would allow you to submit articles 100% free. Since it is newer the comments that you place gain increased visibility. The site also allows the author to place links to products they promote. I know from experience many sites do not allow this. Hope this is useful to someone. Hope this helps.
