So far it sounds as if it is the only hosting company that provides too much, in exchange for really little charges.
Has anyone tried them? Is their service and support reliable?

Yes, all those spammy signatures on all those posts are very useful.
They tell me that sitepoint isn't a place for me.

Hostgator is not a service I would recommend. Go with The Planet or Liquidweb. They are light years better than HG, and that's from personal and professional experience.

If you are looking for shared web hosting, don't hesitate to sign up with Hostgator. For they are one of the best shared web hosting providers. I have been using them for around 18 months now and the hosting and support have been good.

Knownhost for managed hosting and Linode for unmanaged hosting get my votes.
