Go to the SSL provider you use and they'll tell you - each one can be different in terms of what is used to display the image, plus, you might have to choose which image. I'm a fan of Thawte and their steps are pretty self explanatory, but whoever you purchased your SSL cert from should provide you with exactly what you're looking for.

Are you talking about the seal or the certificate? A seal is usually just an image and the SSL provider gives you the code to put it wherever you want.

If you're talking about the actual certificate, that's a whole different animal and, as TD suggested, the steps will be different for each certificate provider. And if not...well, someone reading this thread will probably be looking for something like this.

But the general steps are:

0) Make sure you have a dedicated IP address for the domain you're buying the cert for. If you don't, it won't work.

1) Generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR).
2) Supply the certificate provider with the CSR and pay for the cert.
2a) Additional steps may follow, depending on the nature of the cert you purchased and whether or not any followup phone calls/documents are required. This is SSL-specific, so read your SSL cert provider's instructions.
3) Install the certificate on your server. This is server-specific.

If you want to speed up the process, go to http://www.instantssl.com/ . The verification steps are minimal, and the whole process takes maybe half an hour.

If you have cPanel, you can manage SSL/TLS via it.

I think you might be talking about the Image of the SSL provider. Just save the image and put it on your web site.:4:

You mean attempt to fool people into thinking a page is secure. Bad idea.

Exactly.

If you're legit and you really have a real secure site, then you put the script for your certificate issuer on your page and that will display their image properly - you do NOT put their image on your page, ever.
