TO Looksmart:
You realize by now that you have many upset current customers of your 'directory'. I think I know a way you could 'ease' this just a tad.
You own Zeal, right? Well then, why don't you use this directory in a constructive way?
Every 'advertising' who buys into Looksmart with the current model and every advertiser who is already in Looksmart from the past are automatically stuck into the Zeal directory as well. Correct?
Also, non-commercial sites are in Zeal and many more can get into Zeal, correct?
Do this:
You and everyone knows that Google crawls the net looking for new sites to add to their database. I realize that you and Google do not have a formal relationship as such, but why doesn't Google recognize the sites in the Zeal directory? You could do everything in your power to make the Zeal directory crawlable by Googlebot so as to give ALL your advertisers an added boost with Google.
I believe that could be a very good feature for you and one that I would be real happy with. It seems to me that at this point, Google is not recognizing the Zeal sites. I could be mistaken about this but no backward links from Zeal ever show up. I realize that the Zeal directory has many links in Google, etc, but sites in Zeal are not registering as a backward link.
Somehow, the Zeal directory could figure into the Google PR and links. You could make this happen I would think.
