2. Yahoo Directory Listing
3. Overture Pay Per Click
4. Google AdWords
5. Ask/Teoma Paid Inclusion
6. AltaVista Paid Inclusion
7. Ah Ha banners and PPC
8. LookSmart"s New Program

I can't really judge this lot because I only use a few of them, but from some quick maths I've done:

1. Inktomi Pay for Inclusion - Well worth it for me
2. Yahoo Directory Listing - Again, worth it
3. Google AdWords - Worked well for me
4. Ah Ha banners and PPC - Never used it
5. Ask/Teoma Paid Inclusion - Seriously considering it
6. AltaVista Paid Inclusion - Your engine is bad. I'm not paying for it.
7. Overture Pay Per Click - I don't have that kind of money
8. LookSmart's New Program - I certainly don't that kind money

Yes, but the kicker is, wait until Inktomi changes up things again. They are sniffing around to see how much more money they can squeeze out of you.

Next comes Yahoo. Wait Until they change around as well.

For me, Yahoo is the only one of the bunch I give money to now. Of course, they might be a changing things as well.

Well, I paid my $199 to Yahoo - I don't get a lot out of it, but at least it didn't break the bank. Ink is vital too me at the moment, they can double their prices again for all I care.

I think we're all going to be looking at different ways of marketing soon. How many people can afford the search engines anymore??

I believe that the search engine optimizer's job is going to become more and more focused on being knowledgeable about where money is best spent. Like it or not!

(of course things like good titles and good copy will always be important, too)

I agree. It's a shame. When I started doing this job about 18 months ago, it was all about keywords, and metatags, and content. Now it's all about the $$$$$$$$$$
