Looksmart gave me a 20 months free of $15 dollars worth of clicks. But after less than a week, they now say my $15 is finished!

They suggest I reserve $150 month into my account!

At first I thought at $15 month, I could handle paying $150-$200 year (where before it was just flat payment of $149)

but now they want $1500.00 year or so.

I have not got one call from anyone I can trace to MSN or any Looksmart affiliate.

Hence, my conclusion:
It's over for Looksmart. They just don't generate enough business to justify more than a couple hudred dollars year. And regular inktomi results from MSN seem to do just fine anyway.

After all that dang work tweeking the listing and giving them $149.00!

I agree with Doug's analysis: Looksmart, Overture other PPC schemes will eventually die out a greedy death.

Any comments?

Actually, LookSmart makes Overture look better all the time. I'm sure they're happy about having the heat on someone else for a change. Same with Yahoo!

I'm guessing that LS will be changing the 100 click thing. I would imagine they'll have to. Whether it will be too little too late, is yet to be deterimed. If they don't change it, then yeah, they're royally screwed up the wazoo!

Jill:

Didn't understand. You said, "same with Yahoo". How does Yahoo relate?

Is the 100 click thing their way of saying time is up, need pay up now?

Can you trust it? 2-3 days ago, I didn't see any clicks, now it's at 100? Without any e mails or phone calls to verify it all.

Thanks Kevin.

Sorry for being unclear. I just meant that LookSmart is also making Yahoo look good, and that's hard to do! At least Yahoo granfathered people.

The reason you didn't see clicks when the program first started is they didn't appear to start tracking them until a few days ago.

I think your being a little harsh on Yahoo. Sure they are imperious and haughty. But they are free and between them and Google, provide about 75-80% all all my SE web business. So Sad.

Um Kevin they weren't free last time I looked. They charge $299 per URL, per year to be listed. What Jill was saying was that when Yahoo introduced their annual fee, they had the good sense to grandfather existing listings so they didn't have to pay it annually. They copped some heat over the introduction of annual fees, but nowhere near as much as Looksmart is copping at the moment.

And don't forget Yahoo changing everyone's email preference to now receive spam! If you have a Yahoo email account and haven't gone in and adjusted your preferences to no spam, you better go do it now!

But I still say that L$ takes the cake!

Yeah I forgot about that. I got in before the fee , and was seamlessly Grandfathered bless them.

I guess what I want to say, is besides their fee, and bad attitude, boy do they perform. You can't argue with success. The phone really rings with a listing on Yahoo. Can't say same with others -- except google.

About the Yahoo groups, I have a question: I started a new account name with yahoo groups, forgot the password, and probably screwed up some of the questions that help you get a new password. Hence I can't close this account out, and it will just sit there, which I could care less about, except that with the marketing preferences set to slam me with spam, I don't know what to do. They have no phone support, and I sent two e mails to that feedback form, but no one has written back.

Thanks Kevin

They'll probably just spam your yahoo address (which you won't see), so it should not be a problem. Unless of course, you gave them a different email address.

What's a few more spams between friends anyway? :green: I'm up to about 150 a day lately.

Of course, if we want to continue this discussion, we should probably take it to the yahoo forum or the spam forum.

Kevin looks like you need to set up that excellent mail filter program which blacklists and bounces back all spam. I have been using mine for only a week now and it works wonders in cutting down on the volume.

Go to www.mailwasher,net

mailwasher is not available for Mac, I'm afraid. They do not say that directly on their website so I thought I would tell you as I had to write them. They said maybe some day.
