View Full Version : Thinking 'bout getting nasty...

I'm thinking about getting a bit aggressive with some of one of my clients competition. The main searches are all quite low traffic -though high profit , potentially- and I would like an opinion on whether I can get the following URL banned:
http://www.yps.co.uk/ It is a re-direct so you'll have to do that view-source:http://www.yps.co.uk/ thing to see the code. To my mind, it is borderline, but a second opinion would be good.
These are the only real competition in the UK to my client and I am not impressed by tricks like this in any category.

In my mind, anything that re-directs in what ever way is doing so to manipulate the search engine rankings. Period. That site is clearly redirecting so as to not show the actual page submitted to the browsers.
Hence, turn em in!

Doug, mate,
I was hoping someone was going to say that. When you are in the UK, look me up and I'll buy you a pint of Skullcrusher or Dogbolter or something. Bye, bye, yps.

Looking further, they are actually redirecting according to the browser used.
Technically, it is okay. But very risky to do so as the engines just do not like redirection.
For the life of me, I do not understand why designers feel the need to redirect according to the browser. Why? They are taking on a huge risk. Why bother?

Doug,
yeah, I know they are redirecting according to screen resolution (not browser) - this is why i suggested it was borderline. However, they have still included some optimised text (h1, h2, the whole bit) and the page is a doorway.
If the intent was genuine, this JS could be put in an external file and referenced through every page. Do you still think I'm in with a chance of getting rid of them, though ?

OH yes. Just shoot off an email to whatever engine they are ranked on. Just be specific and to the point giving both Url's and the search term and the ranks.
I HATE Doorways.
