Just checking around Google (www2) and noticed some caches as recent as 2 days ago (August 4th). I don't know what to make of it, but that sure is interesting, lol.

Perfection - you are right www2.google.com is showing Aug 4 caches. Do a search for cnn and you'll see it. However, there doesn't seem to be any other signs up an update as far as I can see.

Wonder what Google is doing with caches of only a couple of days ago?

They are heading for quick indexing I reckon..... a couple of days refresh is my bet

nice.. :)

If they start doing that, would be a big Wow.

Think about it, Google crawls your site,.. 1 week later you see the fruits of your tweaking. Reminds me of Infoseek long ago.

Doug.

Does this mean you now retract your previous statement:

"You are right, Google will not change anything they are doing at all, which is working, and will most likely continue to work for along time. " :D

Made in the FAST section of the forums. Sorry. Couldn't resist.... ;)

It be one way to increase their popularity for submissions as well as searches if their index is kept so current like the old days of InfoSeek and AltaVista.

I think its coming, prob. why the last index was so shakey. Googlebot has been taking vacations in our site ever since then and the recent press release from Google's new CEO stating that they wish to speed up indexing

It all adds up

2 pints on a 2 week refresh

From a business perspective, it almost seems Microsoftesque in its brilliance...

Offer one week indexing (only three days above the pay loads for a two indexing) and suddenly those that reap the harvest of the cash for the two day indexing period may well see their cash reserves decline.

Less cash = Less business = Less publicity = Google gains a tighter strangelhold on the SE market. Whoops. Did I say "stranglehold"? I meant, of course, opportunity to serve the needs of the users.

Here's my prediction for the future. There will not be one of us that does not wind up regretting Google's SE dominance in the long term.

Think about it - you stand a much better chance of high rankings spread over several engines than you do on just one.

You could be right about that MazY. In the short term, 1-2 week indexing would sure be nice. :)

The trouble is, and I don't know about you of course, but I set my own particular business up as a long term venture. In fact, I sense a long article coming along... :)

Oh sure, long term is the only way. I say it could take 2, 4, 6, or even 8 months to get good ranks. All sites are different so you have to protect yourself. It's one thing to get indexed quickly, another to get good ranks.

Here's my not so humble opinion...

Google re-indexing fast is great! Having to wait after submitting or optimizing, is a pain and I never could understand what took Google so long.

However, (and I see this as a completely different subject), I do think that Google will end up dominating all of the engines. They nearly are there already. Since I've built my business on being one of the few to get high rankings in ALL of the search engines, this is a bad thing for me. Who cares if I can get top 10 rankings in AltaVista if no one searches there? Ya know what I mean?

But, I am not one to whine about such things. I take notice, and think of new spins for my services, a new USP if you will. Nobody ever thought the Internet would stay the same, and this is simply part of the inevitable evolution.

Isn't that the truth!!!

It is so true about AltaVista's traffic falling off, but I will still take any traffic they send my way;)

As an example, last week: 7/29/2001 to 8/4/2001 Google my #1 SE refer sent me 25,756 visitors compared to #7 AltaVista with only 2,790 visitors.

BigD, that's a lot of visitors! Is that all for one site or a whole bunch combined?

WOW. That would be quite a pile for one site!

It is verboten for me to post actual traffic numbers as BigD, but those are impressive numbers!~ If my math is correct you are receiving over 70,000 referrals per week!~ I suppose you get most of your traffic from the engines, as that works out to well over 300,000 referrals per month!

Maybe BigD needs to offer his own pay for traffic program!~

(BigD's top 10 SE referrals (http://www.ihelpyouservices.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=249&perpage=20&pagenumber=2))

Is that all for one site?Yes, those numbers are from just one of my sites.

If my math is correct you are receiving over 70,000 referrals per weekYour math is correct JH!:D

I suppose you get most of your traffic from the enginesIt's about half and half. I also have great link popularity as well as a large number who have my site bookmarked. For the week 7/29/2001 to 8/4/2001, my one site netted 174,878 visits.

It's funny that you should mention that JH, as I was just thinking about that the other day!

What do you think?:smart:

On the subject of FAST (Which really is fast becoming my favourite engine, even over Google) does anyone think that their recent announcement of the 9 to 12? day reindexing will encourage others to do the same? I'd like to think so but you never know. I'm not sure Google would rise to the challenge as they seem quite happy with their exisiting unique traits. Any thoughts?

Could this be the answer to the faster indexing?

Yep, maybe. We shall see how quickly Google brings the new index up to the www.

By the way, FAST updated yesterday or the day before in case nobody spotted it.
