Has anyone had any dealings with 411Web? I've got a salesman on me hard and heavy to get into their PPC directory (complete with banner ads - ooooh!) :green:
They quoted me a $0.80/click price on a keyword that I was getting $0.40 at Business.com and $0.64 at Overture. After telling them to forget it, they dropped the price to $0.49/click.
Has anyone found this worth doing or done any ROI tracking on this directory as opposed to the others? Thanks in advance for any experiences.

lol It seems to me if they have to solicit business for one lousy keyphrase, then they must not do very good.

Well, they know that I have a bunch of clients, and they want me to list all of them on their directory. So, I threw them a bone to see what they would quote and how they would promote a specific client. The client is the one who told them to contact me.

Disclaimer: This post was written under extreme duress from a sales call prompted by 411Web at 4:55pm today. Those that are easily offended should just go on to the next topic.

I just had the worst salesman in the world contact me from 411web. What a bunch of idiots. This guy was asking me to list my site "on the most heavily used directory on the web," and begging me for $100. At 0.10/click listing at #25 to start.
So, the "most heavily used directory on the web" is begging me for $100 and doesn't realize that I also control the online marketing budgets for 30 other companies.
After listening to this idiot drone on with his worst "sales" drivel, I told him to get bent.
me: Why should I pay 100 dollars for 1,000 visitors, (supposedly), when I get 3,000 for free from the SE's?
411 monkey: uh-um, well
me: Yeah, I thought so. You can't give me a return like that can you?
411 monkey:well, tomorrow's friday right? you are probably going to the club and you will spend, what? $100, $200 on drinks and a good time, but you won't spend it on your business?
me: what? Are you that hard up you have to ask me something like that? Who taught you how to sell?
411 monkey: well, we have a good product and we think you should take a look at it.
me: but your illustration, you are trying to sell me a directory listing by assuming I'm a drunken slob.
411 monkey: i didn't mean to imply . . .
me: don't worry, you just need to stick to the task at hand. Now focus and tell me what you can offer me in the way of justifiable ROI.
411 monkey: ROY?
me: ok, I see where we are. I'll make this simple. Can I justify spending money with you for visitors, when I can get just as many without spending a dime?
411 monkey: well I think we have a great product . . .
me: You said that already, now go tell someone else! {click}
God I love stupid salespeople, they give me something to post in the forums about, and tell all my friends stories about while I'm getting crocked in a bar on Friday nights, spending a small fortune.

lol Yes, those kind are lots of fun to play with. Classics are the seo company who you have never heard of calling you. Promises of submitting all your pages EVERY week to 1000 search engines. I LOVE to ask them how soon I can get started with this as it sounds like a Great thing. I lead them on and on and on and on and on since it's their dime on the phone. LOL
After about 10 minutes or so of bs'ing them and building up their product, I drop the ball big time! The phone goes deftly silent as I can feel them slither waaaay down inside the phone holder, hoping to never ever be heard from again.

Not to defend them, but I am thinking, although these kinda companies are "big-time scam", the persons calling you to sale you the product might be just poor student who could only find that stupid job (and probably ahte it). If the salesguy is an asshole, I am all for kicking his/her butt, but if the guy seem a little lost like the one you had Matt (or doug), you might want to just say "sorry kid, not interested" and hang up. I am saying that coz I was forced by my school to do a job like that a few years ago, and... GOD I REMEMBER IT WAS AWFUL... But oh well it's just an idea :D

forced to do telemarketing?
I thought about that, but in earlier conversation, he showed he had some sense about the biz, but it deteriorated after that.

It is the search engines like that that make the others look bad. I advertise and submit but I would NEVER contact anyone to ask them to advertise. I would not deal there

I tried the infamous 411web traffic builder and it is just a joke!!! In the first two months with this service, I did not receive one single phone call. I called to discontinue this service and request a refund for the unused portion of the annual fee that I paid them. Their response was that they could only refund 10% of the fee for some lame reasons. After two more months, they have not refunded anything. So beware and keep your money.
411web told me that AltaVista was a dying search engine and they did not even recommend submitting my site to AV!!!!
Anyway for what it is worth, these guys are just plain crooks. I am now contacting the California Attorney General, the Public Utility Commission, the FCC, the FTC and the local Chamber of Commerce. At this point, it is now a challenge to see if I can receive a full refund.

Yes, it's a crying shame. Too many scams out there with zero regulation of any kind.
