Why is getting into this directory so important?

Please list a reason or two this is so. I will start.

It sure does help with link popularity. Why?

To begin, I'm old school. I remember the days BEFORE Yahoo charged you a fee for them to do their job.

So Looksmart and Yahoo's new "pay us and we'll see if we list you" really strikes me as just plain WRONG!!! I mean, "pay us and we'll list you" is one thing, but "pay us to see if we feel like adding you to the list" elicits a low, threatening growl from me ....GRRR!!!:mad:

However, this is the state of affairs on the web right now, so I ask....is it worth $99-$199 to be listed with Looksmart? Is their high "reach" achieved mainly through Alta Vista (which will index you for free)? Are MSN, Excite, Iwon and CNN really worth the money?

Yes. I do agree with you in that I have to spend money now on the net. I HATE it.

you can see that Looksmart is important and IMO is worth it. MSN will be your biggest referrer with this as long as you get a good description in Looksmart.

It is a one-time fee that we just have to swallow, but a fee that will do your site a lot of good.

Actually, $200 isn't a life or death amount. One sale would more than make up for the cost for ANY of my clients (or for me for that matter). That's just the way I'm going to have to look at it. It's an investment.

Most of my clients are newbies and don't know that such things ever were free, so if I'd improve my attitude, they'd never know the difference.

This forum is SOOO good for me ;)

yes diva,.... Your site is very nice also. If you could learn a bunch about the engines, this could also carry over to helping your clients even more than you do. :eek:
