Hi All
First off let me say I tried another forum and got no real help, just belittled a bit and thats not exactly why I came.
Im no pro but Im trying.Ive learned(actually am learning is better) DW,fireworks, paint shop pro, photoshop and flash 5.At home nights and weekends, with no outside help, yes I have a way to go but cracks like I got arent what I was hoping for.SOOOOOO
here goes-
Its been like 5 or 6 weeks and I still cant be found anywhere.Even DMOZ.org is a big zero.I dont understand it.First off I read about tags and added some-not too many I was careful. Also I read up on flash and other graphic text not being readable so I added some plain text, also relative to the keywords and submitted.I tried mass submissions and after a few weeks I tried submitting to each one individually. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? Is it I just havent waited long enough?Im pretty sure ive been spidered, more than once even by a few different engines. Some engines say 2 to 3 weeks but Ive yet to find anything.
GRRRRRRR
Thanks for any help

Is your site in the engines, but just not ranking high? If you're talking about the URL that's in your profile, you have no text on it. You need a good 250 words of visible text which utilizes your keyphrases if you want any hope of ranking high. When you do a search for your URL does your site show up in any engines?
Being in the database and ranking high are two different issues!

No,its not a ranking issue
It does not show up at all-
anywhere(that I can find anyway).
Oddly enough some newsgroup messages that I subscribed to ,signed using my Domain name E-Mail address DO show up but not the site itself.

Welcome jimi_l ,
What Jill is saying is correct, 6 weeks is not long in the SE world, have you got access to your logs? if you have then take a good look for anything with the word 'bot' in it.... use the find command to locate them, or search for 'http1.0' is always a good one. That should tell you whos been and indicate where you may be listed.
Also use a position checker (but not all the time ;) ) to locate your site.
If you are going to display your flash skills then put a link to the page in your menu rather than have it as your default page. Descripe what you do on your homepage 250 words or so including your keywords / phrases.
Im sure you will get lots of help here :)
Ah just noticed you have a car / mechanical background as well!

After a closer lok you could realy do with trimming the html up, there are a mass of empty <td></td> which are not required. Make sure you use your title to good effect, I would suggest 'iceburg' was not keyword?

First off thank you for the welcome:)
Yes I do have a mechanical background. I have re-mfg'd engines for almost 12 yrs not a mechanic but a machinist(reboring, crank grinding, valve jobs etc etc)now. Computers are my real passion, allways have been and I hope to do somthing in the feild fulltime someday.
Its beginning to look more and more like there is no way around dumping the flash page for a more standard approach huh?
It just looks so clean that way I hate to add a page full of text that seems like a real sleeper for "surfers"
Of course the page I have now dosent exactly scream "party in here" but I kinda like it
One thing of note is I have noticed some big$$ pages that have little to no tags or non flash text, yet they rank right up there(ranked at all would be nice too). Is this because they pay the long buck to force their way in?
Thanks again all,you have been very accomdating to this depressed newbie/wannabe designer

Two last things
One is the entire keyword/tag bit was created by a generator, not by me. Perhaps that is why they are not up to snuff and why I recieve many comments about them
Two is I do fancy myself quite a "techie" so if you have any questions regarding that or even the car thing let them fly.Ill respond(my first site ever was a person tech help page)
It can still be found here>>

Threre are ways around flash but I would suggest these are left for a while?
Content is what you need (and yes... text, spiders love text), all the text you have in flash movies just has to come out into text, concentrate your flash for design demonstrations within the site and get your site listed.
Website design is a tough market, to be honest most people stand little chance of being found for it, aim lower, maybe '<your county/state> web site design

Tough it is indeed but I figure some chance is better than none. Sometimes the biggest risk is not taking one but I am realistic about this. I feel If I get 1 person a year who wants me to do a site for them, Im more experienced and they got a good deal with no greater personal attention possible.Im allways learning more.
I shall redesign if need be-
and it shall be better every time..
(now if i can just get some more sick days)
Thanks all

Welcome to the forums jimi_l :hi:
The help you received above is very correct. No content- no ranks. This would also greatly reduce your chance of just getting indexed also.
One way out is to cloak, but that is very risky. I have talked to sites that had no content also. If they did not want to add words to the front page, then I did not take them on as a client. It is that important.
After the content, your tags need some work. You need a good title tag for starters that include a couple of good keyword phrases.
You should also hide the javascript between the head tags in an external js file.
This is for starters.
BTW, make up a signature to show on all your posts including a Url.

Highman gave sound advice, and taking it one step at a time is the right way to go. Spiders love meaty sites with lots of content, so starting there is great advice!
Oh, and welcome to our friendly fourms!~ :hi:
