So, my UK friends and m'colleagues...

I've been test driving WordTracker over the last few weeks. I'm one of those that is never happy to take things at face value. So, with my curiosity cranked up to high, I began to investigate...

Hang on a moment I thought. I refuse to believe that these results are including UK searches. And so I investigated a little further. Sure enough, if you are looking at what UK users are searching for through the UK search engines then WordTracker is about as much use to you as a crystal ball.

But wait... Maybe I was wrong. Afterall, my math is known to be a tad poor. So I wrote a quick email to WordTracker.

Very impressed by their speedy response (I wonder if they realised how highly I rate great customer service) it stated quite clearly that my investigtions had in fact proven to be correct.

Here's the mail I received:

"You have it right. Currently we only check the US engines. We have plans to cover the UK but this won't be for a few months yet.

Best

Andy
Wordtracker"

So, until such time that they cover the UK and I believe what they state in the e-mail about doing just that in a few months, I would not suggest relying on WordTracker for any kind of insight into what UK users are searching for.

Back to guesswork and common-sense for a while, chaps and chapettes.

Yes. I assumed that it was for US only. Yep. Andy is very quick with answering emails.

I shall eagerly await the UK version.

I knew it had to be omitting the UK because of the number of "z" I was seeing in the returns. I swear the Brits are phobic about "z"s in their writing.

If we could change "zebra" to "sebra" then I think that we would!

Hi MazY:
There is at least one other glitch in Wordtracker that I have discussed with Andy Mindel, who as you mentioned, is very prompt to respond, and also to improve his product.

As of a month ago, the MSN competition results are a bit skewed as they base the number of competing pages on the number of Looksmart results returned if there are more than ten, or on the webpages from Ink if there are more than ten LS results returned. Thus you could get results of only 11 MSN competitors if that is how many LS results are returned, when there might be a million INK web pages competing.

That said, I think its the best thing we have at the moment, but I still check important keywords manually.

Great points Mel!

I agree it's the best we have right now. It sure can find those real good, unique phrases though.

Hi All

I have just had an email from Andy Mindel who expressed his pleasure at being given the opportunity to explain his "baby" to us and also disclosed that he plans to have the UK included in Wordtracker "in a few months" with perhaps an international version later.

Real good Mel. Thanks!

Andy can stop by to give his 2 cents worth often. Or should that be a dollar's worth?
