ok....never done this before...

I'm a very unexperienced web admin for www.add-tech.com and I need to get on some search engines. Self taught in everything so far but having some trouble figuring the meta tag issue.

I have tagmaster installed but am having problems understanding how meta tags and search engines work together. I have my keywords and my pages are titled but I need help...anyone wanna throw some ideas my way...open to anything and take criticism well...

Anxiously awaiting...

Welcome, SuNny!

First of all, don't worry too much about your meta tags. I know this goes against everything you've probably heard over the years, but it's the truth! What's more important is your visible text on the page. Do you have any? If so, is it using your keyphrases that you want to be found under?

You have the right idea by using Title tags, as they are your other very important step to high rankings. But without supporting text, any meta tags will be fairly useless. You may want to check out my Rank Write site (and other pages of this forum) for tons more info on this stuff. I have lots of articles in my articles section that give specific tutorials on meta tags, etc. But again, don't even bother to read about them if you don't first have your visible text copy in order!

Welcome to the forums SuNny! :hi:

Jill is right. I see you do not have any content on your front page. The engines deem this page to be most important. Can you put about 200 words at the bottom of the page?

Yes, some content on your front page would be nice. Here'a a link to a previous thread about content (http://www.ihelpyouservices.com/forums/t327/s.html).

Ok, I am going to go against what everyone else has said. Sorry folks.

I wouldn't worry to much about keywords because they are pretty useless at this point, but you do need a description meta tag. The description tag is used by most search engines still. When you do a search, the description tag is what you see below the link in the search results.

You need to add description tags to all your pages. Not just the front page, but every one. This way there is always a description available no matter what page a search engine picks up.

This is true especially if the site does somehow get indexed. The bottom line SuNny is that you need content first for possibilities of ranks.

I don't think anyone is disputing the fact that you need a Meta description tag. However, until you have visible body text, a description tag will mean squat.

First things first, ya know?

Welcome SuNnY!

:hi:

Hope, Hope, Hope....I think you are right on the money here. While it is absolutely imperative that you have great content, what's the point if you get into the top 10 or so and nobody clicks through because you have a lousy, boring, dirty rotten no-good description?
