Hi! Everybody
I have been into internet research and promotion and currently doing it for an exporter of natural stones but for a long time now I want do develop something related to Jobs and Career and as simple as Google. I am a young individual and can't afford to invest money a big firm like google has.
Its basically creation of a Jobs search engine.
Please give your comments how to start off.

You could try the Links 2.0 script from gossamer threads, or the fluid dynamics search engine script. Both are pretty good. FDSE will run you about $45 and Links 2.0 is about $100.00
You can use the FDSE script for free if you leave up the link to their site. You could also check into Go2Search! from go2cgi.com (but their site is down right now for redesign)
hope this helps

Thanks savvy!
Jobs and Career are one thing that majority of the people are looking online worldwide and frankly I want to create an online solution with the help of person might be you so that the vast majority of job seekers and employers can easily locate each other.
I am not very strong in programming but do have ideas since I have been promoting and doing research on the net?
Can I email you my idea about this career search engine?
Most of the persons in this forum are highly qualified and can easily develop such a thing after they have the idea.
I have been in touch with the recruitment industry specially in India and think such a thing might be excellent.
What do you say!

That's true. You can with Links 2.0 though. I use Links 2.0 at my webmaster search engine (listed in my sig). I like it because it does what I need, has templates that you can alter/make your own. Plus, there's tons of mod's that can be added to make it much more functional.
The one on my site is completely customized, as I have added about 40 mod's and custom templates, plus written a few tweaks for it myself. :D

Sorry, I'd have to pass on that one. I have way to many other big projects going on right now. There may be a few others here though who'd be interested. Just ask.

Just so you know, there are hundreds of thousands of job search engines out there on the Internet already. They were one of the first things to really take off way back in the mid 90's. Not sure if there's really room for any more.
Perhaps a very specialized niche job engine for a certain type of profession might work. However, I have a feeling those are already being done also. It's very hard to break into something like this where so many others already exist, unless you have a huge amount of backing/money for marketing it.
Good luck!

Yeah thanks Jill!
You are absolutely right!
But what I am planning is on the lines of google i.e. you reach the proposed job sites type a keyword related to your field and jobs are displayed immediately no registration nothing.
I want to create a compeption among job seekers for a particular field say "marketing" and the end result is best candidates for the employers.
I think you will also receive a PM from me regarding my concept and hope to get your opinion then.

Heavy duty competition...
Career Builder, Monster, HotJobs, Jobs.com, jobs.net, ejobs, etc., etc.
And those are just the more well known sites. Google has 28 million pages for "jobs."

Ok but all the sites have some other features also like resume writing career tips etc.
What I am saying is a simple search button like google. whether you are an employer or job seeker just type keyword and get the results.
No registration/ no payment. Its all easy.
Perhaps I can say we can make it more specific say an Asian or an Indian job Search engine.
There lot of job sites in India also but when I did a seach for web designers on one of the popular job sites in india I came across some resumes out of which one person had repeated her resume six times.
Imagine I type " web designing firms" and all the top 10 results point to a single website won't you feel irritated.
I think you get a feel when you visit gigablast search engine( atleast that was the case with them some time back)

I don't want to put a dampener on your spirits, but as Jill mentioned, this concept has been done before, again and again.
Unless you have a good combination of: Industry experience / Industry contacts / Money / Proven SEO skills then I would not suggest following on with your idea.
I'm sure there are lots of other business niches for you on the internet, its just a matter of finding them.
I would encourage you to put your thinking cap on and come up with a new idea - you certainly seem to have the drive there - you just need the concept.
Good luck whatever you decide to do,
Nick

Hi, could not help but see your comments regarding the employment-careers idea. It's a tough field to break into on a large scale. I am associated with 2 websites, one is a regional down home kinda thing and the other is "well unnamed"
Most of the jobsites you see do not post jobs from paying customers. They scour the internet and post jobs located in newspaper classifieds and off other sites and refer back to the source. Without at least a half million jobs to post or make available to the readers the site won't do very much. And locating sources is a full time job. How do they make money you say? By advertising which is profitable because of the awesome hits a popular site can get. Banner ad rates are in the high extreme payout for these sites. Thats why the competition is so fierce. Can you say $30,000 for one banner or Text Link a month?
Plus one thing to take into account is job/career sites do a good deal of off web marketing. Maybe more than anyone else. Radio, television, telephone marketing to human resource department heads, etc. It is a true combination of internet and off net coupling for business. And off net marketing is costly. One radio campaign can take 35 % right off the top.
The keywords for careers and jobs are already used along with every niche market so getting a site recognized is an ongoing fulltime job.
I am not trying to discourage you. But there is much to consider and weighout. It's a good field of endeavor and we enjoy the contact with our readers who write and inquire about jobs and so forth. It is really a human contact job in all aspects.
Good Luck
