I was wondering if you could help me on this. It is a copy of my site report(or actually one section of it). I know most are just browsers, and some robots, but some I have no clue on. I tried searching but came up with very little info. What the heck is a scrubby?? Also what does #mean as opposed to # requests? Seems like a lot of action for a unadvertised and un-indexed site dosent it? Actually if anyone is really adept at site stats I would invite them to view the entire log and give me an idea on how to figure out some of this stuff(if they were willing that is). Thanks for any insight anyone may have.

Every log stats file that I have seen seems to interpret and show things differently. It is hard to tell what those figures are exactly.
The first column looks like the total number of files requested when the visitor/robot/anything hits your server. This is everything including gifs, 404's, everything.
The second column could be the total number of pages requested by that browser. Just can't be sure though.

Hi jimi_l
I would guess that first of all this is a report organised by browsers. The first number seems to be just a section number, then you have a breakout by hits and pages in this way
Section ........ Browser......... No. of hits..... No Pages
MSIE 1.......... totals............ 110265......... 16140
Msie5........... ......................106724..........15217
MSIE 6......... ..........................2837.............775
MSIE 4......... ...........................704..............148
Netscape 2
.....
.....
.....
You show visits by the following robots in addition to the browser figures above
Lycos............... T-rex
AltaVista.......... Scooter
Scrub the Web.. Scrubby
Openfind......... OpenBot
Net Mechanic
there are some that I cannot identify and in addition it is possible that Inktomis spider (slurp)has visited since he is mostly reported just as a Mozilla 3 compatible browser. If you can break down your report by referrers you may find slurp listed under Mozilla 3.
As to whether this is a lot of traffic or not it depends on what period the report covers, its a lot for a new site if its for a month, but not so much if its for a year.

Hi,
the first half a dozen or so listed are, as I'm sure you are aware visits by people using the browsers listed. The Mozilla ones are NN.
Further down the list, you have a visit from the old Lycos spider (T-Rex), several NetMechanic checks (presumably you ran these to check uptime or broken links or something). Scrubby is the spider for www.scrubtheweb.com, ia_archiver is the spider for Alexa, OpenFind bot is a spider from a chinese or taiwanese ( i forget which) SE called openfind.com. Scooter is AV's spider. The libperl references are possibly an installation of a new CGI-module by yourself or your web host. Not sure about the other two, though I have seen that lwp_trivial reference before, just can't remember where.
Hope this helps.
Oops Mel was slightly too quick for me there - oh well.

The results are supposed to be from the beginning of this month, to present day. So 11 days is what it covers I believe(which seems like a lot to me). At best it can only be from July 2 to present as that is how long I have had this host. Thanks for all the great help, mabey I WILL see myself up these someday!!
Thanks again
Mel
