View Full Version : Perceived name hijacking

I submitted my new page to GoGuides and DMOZ. I'm a little worried they won't accept my submission because of the name:
www.david-duval.com
This is my name and also the name of a well known golfer. I'm a little afraid the perception will be that I am trying to hijack a popular golfer's name for my website. This is definitely not the case here, because it's my name, too!
Do directories like GoGuides or DMOZ sometimes refuse to list sites that may be suspects of name hijacking?
It's been a couple of weeks and I still haven't been listed.
(It's just my personal website, so it's not that big of a deal, but I'd still like to be listed).

If they actually take the time to evaluate your site, they should realize that you are not affiliated with the golfer in any way, shape or form.

Pretty funny dvd. I never thought about it before. :)
I agree with Matt as the guides should know that off-hand.

June 24th to July 27th.
It took 32 days to get into Google--not bad.
DMOZ still has not listed my site. But to GoGuides I say, "Thank You".
I'm actually the 9th site on Google for 'David Duval'. Watch out David DuVal the Golfer. Here comes David DuVal the SEO!!
(Actually, this is just my personal site. No money being made here. Nevertheless, it's nice to get a little recognition anyway.)

Is that with no other links other than GoGuides?

No, there are other links. Interestingly, Google shows no backlinks, so I have no way to verify anything. I can say that the cache copy on Google is a few days older than the GoGuides link, however. Go figure.

I tried to get into GoGuides but the site wouldn't come up. You totally have my permission to change the description as you see fit. I'll check your site again later.
Concerning the description, I'm not sure what my site is about either. It's one of those evolving things. The main point I want to make is that I hope you don't feel I gave you an inappropriate description. (or maybe you are just saying there is a typo).
Thanks for your attentiveness!

I see your point about this:

Looks like Google has over 12,000 GoGuide pages in it's DB, so, yes indeed, a link in GoGuides is good to have, because Google will find it. Here is what I mean:
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=-thisisnothing&num=50&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=goguides.org&safe=images
I think GoGuides is definitely growing!
