Folks, I am taking a day off after numerous hours of preparing Googlization for my site.

Anyway, this morning, I downloaded a Genesis emulator for my iPAQ, and tried to grab some ROM from the net. So, I did a search on "Genesis ROM."

http://www.google.com/search?q=Genesis+ROM&btnG=Google+Search

Then I clicked on the first site in the list. I was greeted with a what-seems-to-be-a-clocked website, which is filled with tons of irrevleant links.

Am I right? Is this site using clocking to trick Google?

Thanx.

oh yes, and they are doing it with a very poor looking cloaked page. All you have to do is click on the "cache" to see the spidered page. Pretty poor.

I hate cloaked pages! Actually, this is the first time I saw a cloaked page. How do webmasters cloak a HTML page anyway? I want to know because I don't know to do it accidentally.

well, you will not cloak by mistake. You would have to know how to do it and do it on purpose.

I hate spam pages, whether they are cloaked or not!~

Cloaking is the ability for a single url address to display different pages, usually accomplished server side and based on UserAgent and/or IP addressing. Similar in a sense to any personal portal which changes content delivery based upon login ID (when implemented legitimately). Cloaking can protect legitimate webmasters from code-jackers just itching to steal content and keywords from top ranked sites, however spammers have also included this technique in their toolbox, and thus the bad connotation.

See SpiderHunter (http://www.spiderhunter.com) for more information on cloaking, including the free Basic Tutorial (http://www.spiderhunter.com/tutorial/).
