I'm sure you guys are aware that Google does not display META description in a search result. Instead, the search engine displays the part of the content where the keyphrases appear. This would make optimizing the description for the USERS for difficult, right?

Yes. Google completely ignores the description tag. For the most part, the keyword tag is ignored as well.
