View Full Version : MSN traffic couldn't be better since leaving LookSmart

Before LookSmart's new program, I was getting about 13% of SE traffic from MSN. In the last couple of month's I've worked really hard to optimize for Inktomi. Now my MSN traffic has grown to over 18% of my SE traffic.

Anybody else experiencing this also?

Absolutely true! Not a cent spent on L$ for new sites - 5% increase on referrals from MSN - now topping 25%. I love it :)

Good! Soon enough LS will be toast.

Could not agree more !
MSN is bringing me 37% of my SE/Directory traffic.

Yahoo 28 %

Google 11%

Alta Vista 11%

AllThe Web 6%

AOL 5%.

Feedback from my customers also shows me I am getting over 50% of my SALES from MSN. I would not use it myself as a SE but what the heck, if customers are using it I'm happy.
:) .

I have ignored the odd emails I get from L$ about upgrading but I still appear on the first page of results. :D

Hey love your avatar Peter_D
Particularly "Footrot" - one of my favourite cartoon characters.

Sheeesh a cow!

Cripes Jill you take me right back to the fair dinkum yarns I loved to tell our Yankee cousins that I met up with in Korea, - like:-

"Sydney is a nice place to visit but you have to be careful sometimes to keep clear of ' aborigines chasing kangaroos down Pitt Street with their boomerangs' ".

OR " Its great living out in the bush as long as you're careful, like making sure you knock your bludstones out against the tent pole before you put em on in the morning to get rid of any 'joe blakes' that crept in during the night - cause it's a bit uncomfortable walking round with a taipan in one of your boots." :D
We had great fun 'taking the mickey'.

Yup,

same here re: Ink. traffic from MSN. It seems to go in fits and starts depending on how many LS listings drop out in a given week, but overall the trend is up.

On a related note, I read some worrying rumours that MSN was looking for a new listings partner. From the tone of what I saw, it was Ink. they were looking to replace. Anyone have any other info, as I can't find the source for this.

Hi Mark, those are all just rumors about MSN/Ink. I've not read anything from a credible source that would substantiate the claim.

Hopefully they'll drop LS though!

I thought it was a cow.

One of the characters in that photo could almost certainly be confused with a cow. The other is a border collie (http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/barbour/dogs.html)

Staying completely off topic (as I am wont to do) and talking about the most intelligent character pictured in these forums, I always thought "Dog!*#" had a bit of kelpie in him.

That's quite possible. I think "dog" is the New Zealand sheepdog version, which has shorter hair than the normal border collie and is certainly more intelligent!

Having owned - or should I say adopted - a sister identical to Dog when we ran a small property in the hill country back of here, I would have to agree. The intelligence, lovableness and keeness to work of this breed is legendary.

When we got rid of our few sheep she would faithfully round up the chickens, piglets, ducklings or any other small group she could find. One of our favourite pictures from this period is a photo I took of Missy standing guard over our youngest (about 2) asleep in the sun among a group of 10 piglets.

Jill,

I thought that was probably the case. Thanks for confirming it.

OK, I just had to tell someone. :D

I am running all of my marketing reports for clients, included in most reports are the rankings reports.

For my "favorite client site" I have poor rankings on L$ for most terms. Not surprising, since I refused to get into their Small Blackmail Listings.
However, For those same terms I am in the top 15 on MSN. My MSN referrals have more than doubled since March, thanks to Ink, and I'm not even in the paid inclusion!

So much for the thought that we needed L$ for the MSN traffic. :thebomb:

Good deal Matt! Yes, many sites have not been hurt at all from LS. They seem to be an afterthought of the past now.

Yes, many sites have not been hurt at all from LS. They seem to be an afterthought of the past now. Funny you say that Doug. I have noticed the L$ forum in most SEO forums has virtually died in the past few weeks.

There is a saying it's better to be talked about in negative terms than not being talked about at all.

Sophie has identified a shift to the latter ;) It's the AV story all over again. First rule for internet companies : do NOT annoy webmasters. They are the internet :)
