In order to show you more information about a site, Google Toolbar has to tell us what site you are visiting which it does by sending us the URL
Since many people recommend not submitting your URL directly to Google for the first time as it may hurt your rankings, would it be possible to submit your URL using the Google Toolbar and not have your rankings hurt? You could go to a site that you know links to yours and click on it to maybe even improve your PageRank.
Has anyone tried this or know if it would work rather than waiting for the Googlebot to find your site?

Google only spiders once a month anyway so when they do your site will be there.
I do not think using the toolbar would be much help.

Thanks!
On another note, is there any set time when Google (or other search engines) spiders your site?

Google is pretty prompt in the first week of every month or so. The rest are very random.

Hello The Wiz,
Here is how we would word the manual submission via Google's Add URL Page versus not submitting and waiting for the spider to include your Site, issue.
Submitting does you no good. It does not hurt or penalize you, BUT it does not help you either. Actually, you'll probably get indexed faster if you don't submit. Plus, Google says (http://www.google.com/webmasters/1.html) ... "Submission is not necessary and does not guarantee inclusion in our index." They also mention, "We DO NOT add all submitted URLs to our index, and cannot predict when or if they will appear."
Our advice is to FIRST get linked by the top ranked Sites within your community and let Google's spider find your Site. Your initial ranking will be higher this way than if you submit.
Here is a TOP SEO TIP of ours: Place a link to Google.com on your page (DO NOT submit it) and click them a few referrals because Google crawls out of their own referral logs.

The Wiz, you make it sound like it takes longer for the spider to find AND index you then it does when you submit. That is NOT necessarily true, and as Google stated above the exact opposite is the normal case, "you'll probably get indexed faster if you don't submit."
A word to the wise ... Be careful who you listen to and what you believe, start by reading all of the Google Help Pages (http://www.google.com/webmasters/) and commit them to memory, that way you'll immediately be able to spot the erroneous postings.
