I just saw the massive update on Inktomi... and i now get an additional 100 visitors from MSN daily... so thanks Inktomi...
but i believe there's more room improvements...
Google just came back for me, and it is now sending 450 visitors daily.
So, I really want to see if Inktomi can be match to Google...
Here's my questions...
How do you optimize for Inktomi? Does it count on ink popularity or what? Are there any particular 'thing' I should look at when optimizing pages for Inktomi?
How often does Inktomi update? It would seem Inktomi doesn't get updated very often.
Thanks!

Because Ink does not have the 'reach' that Google does, you will always receive many more referrals from Google. Ink just has MSN really, and the secondary results at that. Terms real popular will show the Looksmart listings first on MSN.
Really no difference at all in optimizing both of them. Ink does look at link pop just like Google. Google referrals will always be about double Ink in most cases.

It seems to me that Ink seems to like more spammier techniques than Google.
My homepage is well optimised, and always ranks top ten in Google, but languishes in the 20's and 30's in Ink powered SE's such as MSN.
When I look at sites above mine, there seems to be loads of key-word stuffing going on, all-be-it maybe unintentional in some cases.
So given the choice of compromising the massive traffic I get from GG or trying to drive up the traffic from MSN, I think I'm going to stick with what I've got - particularly with GG's dominance of the search engine world at the moment (AOL, Yahoo, Netscape, iWon, etc.)

Yes, Ink always is but they have vowed to get better with catching the spam. I think you will see the spamsters out there start to get deleted right and left.

this is a stupid question...
what spammers really want? I know it's money, but will their SPAM techniques REALLY WORK when SO MANY people hate thier SPAM?

there's lots of suckers out there....and lots of non-computer savvy people who don't know any better....

I think I reported in here somewhere that the number one money maker according to the FBI Internet fraud site was the Nigerian letter scam. That is, that particular scam is reported as having bilked the most money out of the unsuspecting.

My observations of Inktomi have been very much the same (as regarding the "spammier" sites ranking higher in Inktomi then in Google), and I have likewise wondered how long Inktomi will continue to let these kind of tactics proceed.
One thing that I would really like to see on Inltomi partner sites is a Cache feature like Google has. Of course that wouldn't address the open SPAM situation, but it would address the cloaking spam problem.
Also, if Inktomi partner sites (read MSN, etc.) had a Spam Report page like Google (http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html), that would probably be a real help in cleaning up their database (both by putting those who would take advantage through the use of SPAM on notice, and would give webmasters some small token kind of recourse with the SE). This all of course assumes that Inktomi partner sites would put adequate resources towards looking into these areas (which I'm a bit skeptical that they would...).
Along the same lines, recently I noticed that several of the standard "available" cloaking scripts don't include Google in their line-up of target cloak-targeted engines; and I think that Google's cache feature must have something to do with that.

Hi,
We have an email address for reporting spam in our index, it is reportspam@inktomi.com.
Thanks.

Thanks for the address Inktomi!
So, what are the chances of MSN (or any other Inktomi partner site) having a Cache feature? Does the Inktomi search technology preclude such a feature, or is there another reason for not having it?
Thank agains for your partipation. It's a good thing.

Yes, but Ink probably has little control over how the partners display their listings. It would be very good if MSN or Hotbot or whoever had the cache feature. Since all the partners receive and update the Ink database whenever they feel like it, having a cache of the page of what they currently have would be a big help in many ways other than the spam factor. I'm all for it.

I'd love to know what Inktomi has to say about spam.
Ink has put himself about on all the main forums recently, but keeps on dodging the spam issue by refering to the spam report email address.
That's all well and good, but the fact is Ink ranks spam sites well, and it takes someone (SEO, webmaster, etc) to report it.
We don't want to HAVE to do this.
We, and the searching public want an algorithm & database that delivers sites with relevent content rather than sites with title & meta tags rammed with keyword repetition.
I'm going to repeat myself here I'm afraid...
I'd love to know what Inktomi has to say about spam.
