From the Google Adwords FAQ (https://adwords.google.com/select/faq/cpc.html#cpc1)Minimum cost-per-clicks (CPCs) have been set for Google AdWords Select keywords based on their market value and performance history in the Google AdWords programs. Thus, AdWords Select advertisers purchase keywords at a CPC rate comparable to or higher than the amount paid for those same keywords through the original AdWords programThis is a load of horse manure. I find that the minimum for a kw is over $1.00, but yet when I search on Google with the same kw-- there are no google adwords showing!!!

Could it because the freaking minimum is over $1.00. Seems to me, if they dropped the price they might get some takers.

For the second day in row-- there are no google adwords showing for a particular term-- yet the google minimum is over $1.00

How can google determine that minimum should be $1.00, when there are NO SPONSERS!

or Is somebody paying google for BLANK ADS?? :thebomb:

Can you tell us the keyword you are trying? 1$ sounds indeed very much, it's gotta be a very popular keyword, and if it is so popular, then there should be some bidders... Sounds weird...

Google just makes the min CPC up! It's not like Overture where you can always put in a bid for $0.05

Exactly! Even if there are NO bidders being shown! I do see a sponsored listing now, but no Ad Words. I even checked through an anonymized proxy.

hi,

Well I did notice a trend in google adword select ie, the more popular the keywords, the max cpc is less so naturally ur average cpc also comes down, whereas for the keywords where there are no ads and not so popular ones, I have noticed the maximum cpc to be on the higher side, looks like they are trying to strike out a balance.....

Sometimes the #1 adwords listing is shown as the 'sponsored link'. It depends if the keyword already has a sponsor or not.

I have all my bids at 5 cents. Google says they won't show them, and they usually don't. But lately, I've been noticing that I'm occasionally being shown for the phrase "search engine optimization" for only 5c! It's supposed to be a minimum of about $1.27.

Just put those words in your campaign, set them for 5c and see what happens!

OK. Thanks for the responses!! :)
I searched and found another example:
kw: cd covers - The Google SERP (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=cd+covers)
I am only seeing a Premium Sponsor (http://www.google.com/ads/images/ads-homepage.gif) and NO Adwords (http://www.google.com/ads/images/ads-homepage.gif).

Yet, if I try to add "cd covers" to MY keywords, I get this ERROR:[US $0.80]**

** To be shown for the indicated keyword, increase your maximum cost-per-click (CPC) to be higher than the minimum CPC we've setThis is what I'm talking about. There are NO AdWords showing, ONLY ONE premium sponsor.
I CANNOT SET MY BID TO 5¢. I get the above error, even though I'm not seeing ANY adwords for that very same kw.

Yes, but just keep that keyword in your list with other keywords and it may eventually get listed for that phrase at your minimum bid. (It will e astericked and all, but it it still may start getting impressions at some point.)

Then again, it may not!

In my example, there are always other bidders. But for some reason (perhaps when some of them get tired of paying so much and shut off that keyword phrase), then my ad gets shown! It's like number 9 on the list, but it's getting some exposure nonetheless.

For the kw I am monitoring, there have been NO ADWORDS for days! (I dont know about my example kw). But it doesnt seem ethical to be able to set a higher minimum if there are NO BIDDERS.

Hey BigD...

Just as a test, yesterday I started a new campaign in Adwords. I bid on just a few words, most of which were saying they were in the $1 plus bid range. I put in only 5cents as my max bid.

Today I logged in and found that I was shown for those high priced words. Not much (8 times for one, 5 times for 2, and 4 times for one) but shown nonetheless. Had someone clicked, it would have only been a 5-center.

So the bottom line is that you CAN keep your bid low, even if G says they won't show your add for that price, they still might, if only a little bit.

I'm not sure what happens with words like yours where there is no bidder. Try it and see. Maybe your ad really will show up. Let me know what happens!

Yes, I see what you are saying. In fact, I will try it and see what happens. Because I'm still seeing only the single premium ad, and no AdWords.

It's been 2 days, and there have been no impressions for the kw which is below the google minimum. Yet during the past days there have been no AdWords showing either. The only thing: a single premimum sponsership. That's all. SO apparently they CAN control YOUR MINIMUM BID. :thebomb:

I believe they all say "Sponsored Link (http://www.google.com/ads/images/ads-homepage.gif)" on them! ;)

I think you are talking about the Premium Sponsorships, which appear at the top, as opposed to the AdWords which appear to the right. These are two different programs: Premium vs AdWords. So I think that it could be the same sponsor, but really different ads.

I have also seen results with plenty of AdWords, but no premium sponsorships.

(So you can't come up for anything but one of those phrases that are bid too low.)

I did notice that mine said something about the keywords could only be showed in other countries, and there was an asterick, but then no explanation of what it meant. So I think perhaps, I'm not being shown in the US Google, but might be being shown in Canada and Australia, and/or UK. Still it's only 5cents a click, so that's okay with me!
