What would be the chances of getting the description written by the editor changed? I can't say that I'm unhappy with the way I show up for my keyword, I'm the first site listed...but the description is not what my service is all about. And they completely missed the main point that sets me apart from all my competitors which is personal service as opposed to automated service.

By the way Doug...they did keep the title you told me to submit.

Thanks, Lee

Great Lee. Please post your Url and the title and description they gave you.

Looksmart are usually pretty reasonable about changing descriptions, provided they don't think you are just trying to add in keywords to the description. They are all human beings (well, some of them are), so it can't hurt to ask in a reasonable manner that explains why you would like the description altered.

Sorry about that http://www.RSVP-etc.com
This is what they gave me at Looksmart:

RSVP Wedding Planning Service
Cut down on costs associated with wedding invitations and postage with this personalized RSVP service. Potential guests can RSVP via phone or the Internet.
See also: Wedding Invitations

My problem with this is the fact that my service has very little to do with the savings on invitations and postage...although we do touch on that. And i certainly don't know what a "potential" guest would be.....you're either a guest or your not! That part didn't make a lot of sense. But my main objection is that they mention that guests can RSVP over the internet or via phone....which lumps me right in with my competitors who are all automated. i go to great lengths to stress the fact that we are not an automated service....and that's the main reason I get the business that I do!

Wow. You got a great description. You will be ranked #1 on MSN for the term "RSVP". Also ranked on a few more.

I would be very careful about requesting a change. The only part you may not want in there is "automated". I am afraid they may change around the whole thing if you try it.

If it was me, I would leave well enough alone.

I just searched for "RSVP" on Looksmart. You are number one there. That is not saying you will be on MSN, but I have to say there is a good chance of it.

Hmmnn.....keep calm, Lee. We'll sort it out. I suggest you email looksmart asking them to remove the last sentence, explaining that what you provide is a personal and not automated service and also request that they change the word 'personalized' to personal, as this the USP of your business. Don't tell them they got it wrong, just make it clear what is right.

I still think you should leave it alone. Taking out the last sentence would possibly eliminate a rank on RSVP.

It also could eliminate any terms that go with RSVP.

Hey Lee, you have 30 days to request a change for free. Wait awhile to see what happens when MSN updates it. Maybe they will in a couple of weeks.

A suggestion:

Firstly, thank you for my recent addition into your directory.

While the description offered by you is certainly along the right lines, it is missing my core business which is centered around the "personal service" that we offer within the wedding planning services.

I would be very grateful if you would consider amending the description from:

"Cut down on costs associated with wedding invitations and postage with this personalized RSVP service. Potential guests can RSVP via phone or the Internet."

to something like:

[Insert your amendment]

Once again, many thanks for the initial addition.

Regards...

------------

Experience in the customer services writing field tells me that brevity, politeness and explaining valid reasons generally wins the day over any plain old rant that rambles on.

Nobody likes doing the same thing twice so a valid reason for having to repeat a task that the editor has written in as "complete" in an absolute requirement.

That is very true and if the email is like that, LS would gladly change it accordingly. The problems with it are what I mentioned above.

I would at least wait til MSN updates the site and then evaluate the situation after that. Again, you have 30 days to request any changes for free.

Thanks to all of you for the help on this. I think I like the idea of waiting a while before I do anything. I certainly don't want to do anything that would harm my ranking on the term RSVP. And thanks Mazy for the wording for a letter requesting change should I need it.

I just hope Yahoo does a little better job of describing my service!

Thanks again everyone...you guys are such a big help.

No worries. As Doug pointed out, you have a good thirty days to see how things go anyway.

Bon Chance!

Yahoo? Not. You will be lucky to get this:

offers rsvp wedding services.

That could be it. Some sites get very lucky.
