Sorry if this is a silly question, but what exactly is the relationship between Positiontech and inktomi? The reason I ask is that in the last month, we have seen a 50% drop in traffic from MSN. We have about a hundred pages listed in Positiontech and up until this month recieved good rankings and good traffic. My reason for this question is that I have been following the Inktomi threads on several forums, and understand that they are promoting their pure spider results. What I am wondering is if Positiontech and Inktomi's relationshi isn't rock solid, are positiontech pages getting "bumped" in favor of Ink's pure spider results? Anyone have any ideas about their relationships and opinions about my conclusions?

You dropped because of the HUGE influx of new pages Inktomi put into their database. Paid pages or not, many new ones are in their now. You have much more competition for your phrases now so the strongest optimized sites will do the best.

Thanks Doug. I assumed that was the reason, but it raises the question of the worth of Positiontech. Since the links submitted there are not spidered, and it's obvious that being there is not helping position now with this shift, do we all let positiontech expire and focus on attracting the inktmoi spider, as we do with google? I also wonder (again sorry if this is an issue that has been raised) since there are two different sources for the pages in the Inktomi database- paid submission which areen't technically spidered, and pure spidered- are the results from both simply thrown into one big pot, with the inktomi ranking algorithm blind to the source? Or, since Inktomi appears to be marketing itself as more of a "pure search" provider, a la google, thanks to it's new focus on spidering to find sites and decreased refresh, are pure spider results ranked higher in the algorithm? Have you heard anything about that? I have been searching, and although I have seen no definitive answer, I have seen people indicate that this may be the case based upon their results. That was the other reason I was interested in the relationship between Ink and Ptech. Wondered if Ink was slitting their throats.

Hi Ifish:
I believe that the pages that you pay Positiontech for are spidered, and in fact Inktomi are supposed to respider them every 48 hours.
The problem is that Inktomi may not spider the pages that you don't pay for.
Inktomi have no way to put their results out to the world other than through their partners search engine, since they do not have a public engine of their own.
