I am not sure what has happened but for the past few months my site was consistently placing in the top 10 in the MSN web page results. This was great. However starting today at around 3pm (I actually know the last time someone successfully found my site on MSN was 2:44 pm est), at 3pm though my site was noweher to be found in the top 100. I know these results are powered by Inktomi but my site still places in the top 10 of other Inktomi based results. The site still does appear in MSN if I just search for the site name but other than that its not showing up for any of my keywords. I would really like to know what happened because MSN was the top referrer to my site and now I'm going to lose tons of traffic. Anyone got any ideas???
Thanks,
Anthony

Welcome to the forums anotaro! :hi:
hmm. Not sure why that happened. Maybe MSN simply lost your url? Is so, they will pick it up again when they reindex the Inktomi database. Are you sure you are still in the Ink database? The partners of Ink update, etc all differently, so it's possible Ink dropped you and MSN is the first one to notice.

MSN.com had a problem with picking up Paid Inclusion URLs yesterday. This did not affect other MSN sites. All my sites disappeared which were paid inclusion and to make things worse all non US sites disappeared as well (.co.uk, .au etc.).
As of this morning, all seems back to normal. Check again today - you should be back - all mine are.

This happened about a week or so ago also - there does seem to be an intermittent problem with this.

Makes one wonder if they are working on the algorithm or are they simply dropping the ball?~:bouncy:

Well I am happy to say that as of this morning everything seems to be back to normal. Hmmm....strange. This site is not a paid inclusion site but maybe they were having problems with their regular web page matches too. I am glad things are back to normal, for now at least. This site was really my first major success in search engine placement, ranking in the top 10 for most of my keywords on most of the big search engines, and since its for my fiancee's law practice I have a personal interest in its success. Thank you guys for responding so quickly, I've found a lot of great info on this site. Keep up the good work!
Thanks,
Anthony

I lost a shed load of referers from MSN again yesterday. Is this becoming a weekly thing, or what???

Ink is both adjusting its algo and increasing the size of its index. I think I read that the index nearly tripled in size.
That's bound to result in some severe shifting in rankings. Things have been pretty unstable over there for the last month or two. I have rankings that have been stable for months (or even a year) that suddenly are jumping all over the place.

Very true. The bot is very agressive right now as well. They are pounding web sites, digging for more and more pages. They've been in here for one straight week now with 3 or 4 or more bots at a time.

Inktomi hit one of my sites (the one I paid for inclusion) 11 times in the last 3 days. My listing was all over the place. For example, my site went from 10 to 1, to 23 back up to 1 and now it's at 2...weird. I guess they're doing the Inktomi Jig ;)

I was hitting Number #1 as MSN for many of my key words. Than I noticed I got dropped all together. Ink - Dropped me too.
I think its my website.
I am new at this and used to do Flash and Director only.
Now I am thinking it must be something in my site that is making people drop me,
Any help

Hi PatrikL
i guess, no one can find your stylesheet on your harddisk
<link href="file:///OS10/Users/pjlavin/Documents/k.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
But thatīs not your problem...
good luck

PatrickL,
The database got reindexed recently.
Your website looks okay to me, so IMO i guess your pages got dropped due to a lack of links to your site.
I suggest you work on improving your linkpop.
Msn shows only one link coming from your contact page,
Hotbot shows 2
alltheweb shows 10, most of them coming from forums or guestbooks
and google shows 0
Acquiring links is a time consuming activity however without paying for inclusion, it's a must to remain listed and it's always necessary to achieve good rankings on any SE.
If a quick inclusion is desired, you could consider paying looksmart to guarantee your inclusion
Good luck
Danny
