The index now returns irrelevant results.

Yep. We already established that fact, but do not get real excited as Google is not done yet.

:) well for one of my search terms I went up from the mid 60s to number two - and they are still using the same cached page - How that works I don't know.
So I am happy but worried that the next random change in ranknig will be as violent in the wrong direction.

<lol> Well once a page is at the top...there really is only one direction left!~
It may be wise to abstain from analysis until the music stops and the dust settles!~ Guerilla Googlebot has been all over our site the past four days...which is very atypical for Googlebot, who usually gets to business and gets the hell out. This could be indicative of the problem Googlebot had last month, in which a "correction" indexing appeared to have occurred. So it may be possible this is a carry-over problem, and maybe they are again having to perform "correction" indexing to resolve the problem. <just guesses>

Good points JH. The current results have a lot to be desired so that is a good possibility.

Suits me just fine - I suggest they leave them alone...
For every winner there is a loser.

Very true. Some searches look perfectly fine,.. others have one sentence doorway pages at #1. That cannot be good in anyone's book.
