Hi,

New here but I need help!

First question: How do I figure out where the results from a search are coming from? Are all results paid inclusion?

Second question: How do I prove my registered trademark is actually contained in a cloaked search result since I can't actually see it? Any help in this area would be much appreciated.

Third question: How do you report cloaked pages to askjeeves? And is it worth reporting...that is will action be taken? I read their TOS on spam but I can't find anywhere where it should be reported.

Welcome to the forums Kat! :hi:

1. Coming from articles/pages submitted to ask jeeves to consider. Also coming from Teoma search engine which is mostly PFI (pay for inclusion)

2. No idea.

3. Don't know that either as I have never looked at how to report spam to them.

I'm not sure at this point that it's worth it. If/when they start generating more referrals, then maybe. Others might have different experiences as I have not followed them that close.

Thank you for your information Doug. The most important of my three questions was about how to prove my registered trademark was being used in a cloaked document. I guess I'm back to square one on that.

Thanks again!

>prove my registered trademark was being used in a cloaked document..

If a trademark is in a search result - sue!

If it is cloaked - how would anyone know?

Trademarks have to be a visible part of your marketing activity, if you want to sue. Otherwise - relax :)

>How do you report cloaked pages to askjeeves?

LOL! AJ wants money - spammers pay for results that pay - no spam in AJ (hopefully). There are no 'cloaked' pages in AJ - apart from the ones that are accepted :)

I would be happy to sue the jerk but I have to prove that my trademark is there. Because of the name of the trademark, they could very well not have intended for our trademark to come up as it does.

Example:

big dog software - trademarked name

Search for big dog software renders a website with cloaked keywords or text of big dog software.

Can I sue for that? Not likely. What if their cloaked text actually says something like "big dog breeders need software" and a search for big dog software returns their cloaked page even though it is not intentional. Since I can't actually see the text, I don't know what it says!

Hmmmm no spam in AJ? I beg to differ. Email me and I'll send you a link to take a look for yourself as this type of cloaking is NOT allowed per AJ's or whoever receives the submission payment's TOS. I will also tell you how I know this is just SE spamming. I can say this....we didn't pay to be included in AJ and we are in there so if we can be in there so can SE spammers.
