As those who know me will know, I have had one competitor in particular who has made a habit of extracting sentences from my page, changed the odd word or two (just enough to make it hard to claim copyright infringement), copied all the key-phrases, page titles and descriptions in the same manner.
To say it has been frustrating me is an understatement. So, two to three months ago, I decided to play along.
Using the estimated dates of Google's spider coming along, I modified my pages at what must have, to the competitor, seemed like random days. All the time, encouraging him to crank his keyword density up each time. Of course, I too ran the risk of getting kicked very hard by Google too. (And did on a couple of occasions.)
I thought the results would not show until next month. Thanks to the new Google index, I can sit back and laugh.
His previous position of #3 has now been dropped to #60. My previous position of 21 has now been promoted to #18. Let that be a lesson - copy at your own risk! There are always people like me who will, on the face of it, play along in their own little way, all the while just forcing you into major flaws... :D
It's my best key-phrase too. I love it when a plan comes together...
