I have one site listed in MSN and have no idea how it got there! My problem is I want my other sites listed as well.
How do I get listed in the MSN web search? When I try to submit it takes me to LookSmart. Will the Inktomi paid inclusion list the site in MSN?

It will but you will be below the LookSmart sites.

On this theme is it still worthwhile keeping up payments (of $39p.a.) to maintain an Inktomi listing so as to remain well listed in MSN.?

I have not paid anything to Looksmart in the past 3 years and do not intend to

The money is for respidering quickly only. It's not for maintaining ranks. You would have to decide whether a quick respidering every few days is worth it.

Thanks for that info Doug.

So are the top ten positions I seem to be holding in MSN due to Inktomi or a residual result of my having once paid Looksmart 3 years back.?

I personally feel that MSN is fairly important as it catches those new users who have not yet heard of alternate search engines -apart from the one that shows in their browser window. ;)

Is the listing your LS title and description? If so, it is purely LS and nothing to do with Inktomi. If it is your Ink listing with your actual page title and desc., then you have optimized well for your keyphrases. It has nothing to do with paying to be in Inktomi.

No Doug, Title and description vary quite a bit - depending on the term being searched on.

Seems like Mel and I both did a great job between us.

Thanks Mel. :D

MSN lists:
1 featured site (something they own, usually)
then
3 Sponsored Sites (pay per click listings)
then
"Web Directory Sites" - a whole bunch of Look$mart directory matches (not in the same order as L$'s search, and all of the results that L$ returns) which usually run several pages. I think the DirectHit database (which MSN seems to use still) comes into play here.
then
"Web Pages" from Inktomi, which is little different from the unfiltered Inktomi results.

If you're on page 1 at MSN, it's either due to a Look$mart listing, or because L$ doesn't return enough results to fill up the first 14-15 rankings, and you're doing well on Inktomi. You can tell by reading the headings in the SERPs, to determine what category your site falls under.

The web directory sites are not always just from looksmart...I have noticed it is a mix of Ink and Looksmart...

Give an example please. If so, MSN is violating their stated terms about what is and is not.

Looksmart links (commercial sites) should show the L$ link.
Looksmart links (Zeal listings) should show just the URL.
Inktomi listings should show the Inktomi link.

Are you seeing Inktomi listings in the Directory matches section? Can you give an example?

If in the 'web directory' results and you mouse over and it is a direct link, it is simply your freebie listing from Looksmart.

not in looksmart

and 15th http://140.174.208.58/money.html

Your first example listed in Zeal:
http://www.zeal.com/search/results.jhtml?keyword=Your+Debt+Elimination+Homepage&scope=directory

Your second example is completely offline. Not in Zeal any more, but MSN isn't necessarily using a live feed from L$.

None of the listed Directory matches for that search shows an Inktomi link.

You can copy the site title in the listing, and use it for a search on Zeal (www.zeal.com), for as many sites as you like.
