I have about 85 pages already indexed with several search engines.
However, they were htm pages. In order to improve my site, I need to update these indexed pages to .asp format.
In this case, what will happened to those pages already indexed as htm pages.
Appreciate help on this..

Put in some NOINDEX tags in your htm pages, and redirect the users to the new asp pages.
That way, the search engines will slowly drop your htm pages from the listings, but people who have them stored in their bookmarks will still be able to visit your site.

Create a custom 404 error page (similar to a sitemap) and contact your hosting company to have them configure the server to direct errors to that page instead of giving the generic "page not found" (404) error.
This will be a good long-term solution for your site, (as in the case of AV not refreshing their index for a year or two) as well as a good thing for visitors who follow any links to your pages from outside sources, they will then get your custom page where you can redirect them to any page on your site.
That way you can completely drop your HTML pages and not have to worry about managing them. :D
Good luck!
