Hi

http://www.indexireland.com/
http://www.nci.ie/Yellow/
http://www.irishsearch.net/
http://www.niceone.com/
http://www.ireland-information.com/engine/

and I found a few others elsewhere

Kompass - www.kompass.ie
irish business-to-business directory.

Oceanfree - www.oceanfree.net
Billed as 'Ireland's largest and most accurate search', this engine is powered by Google so the claim is probably warranted.

irish Sites - www.irishsites.com
Portal type directory site which powers results at Online.ie and irish Abroad.com.

Purple Pages - www.purplepages.ie
Provides free Internet business resources for the irish market, including business directories, newsletters and forums.

Blue Pages - www.bluepages.ie
Business directory for the Dublin area, with entertainment listings and other information.

Online.ie - www.online.ie
irish portal site with news, email and search service.

In case it's relevant, G only picks up links from Niceone, Doras and Browseireland.

That's probably one of the best lists of Irish search engines/directories I have seen. :)

The Oceanfree Google feed is also shared by IOL and Esat. The opimisation on Irish sites is not that good and some Irish sites that will be visible in results from google.com will be missing. Given Google's somewhat erratic geographical localisation of sites, it gets somewhat confused as to whether a site is Irish. The .ie zone would probably have about 19K websites but of these, perhaps 15K are active (as in have content) but only 11K or so would be updated regularly (as in this year.)

irish Sites - www.irishsites.com

Not a heavily trafficked directory from what I remember. Some good material but also some dead wood. It is hindered by the fact that people have to log in to add a site. No direct spidering.

Doras is on the way out as it does not seem to maintain the lists of sites. The sites are reviewed, and left in the directory often years after the site has disappeared. It went pay for certain categories last year and lost a few commercial sites who were not interested in paying. It essentially tried to be a copy of Yahoo.

www.iesearch.ie has been down since October but it used to be a fairly good site. It may be back soon. Another .ie site, searchengine.ie (based on an Access database backend) disappeared in September. I'm not sure if this one will be back.

I've been working on a definitive Irish website search engine/directory for a while now. I've not added about 25K Irish .com/net/org websites nor the NI websites from ODP yet.

Deepsearch - (.ie/all ODP sites and submitted sites)
(about 114K Irish webpages)
http://whoisireland.com/cgi-bin/fullie.cgi

.ie websites only - index page search
http://whoisireland.com/cgi-bin/iesearch.cgi
(about 20403 top level (index) .ie webpages - all active .ie websites are automatically included in this one. )

The Deepseach engine is still very much an experimental one as I am still cleaning the index of holding page sites. It does not have that many personal sites and business and full domain sites tend to be the majority. However it is updated on a weekly(ish) basis. The other one is completely updated every couple of days.

:hi: jmcc welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the information, it is good to get some fresh perspectives, especially when its from people living in the countries they are reporting on. :)

I hope you stick around and contribute some more.
