I am trying to learn more about using sites like goto.com for marketing my website at www.golfstore4u.com. I ran across this e-course, called "Instant WebSite Traffic" at http://www.instantwebsitetraffic.com covering strategies for pay per click search engines. Has anyone read the course or have special insight about using pay per click search engines in your marketing strategy? I'm really interested in this subject and any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

through i havent gone through any tutorial for using pay per click search engines, but yes i am regualar advertiser of GOTO. In a marketing plan, GOTO can play a good role, as you instantly get in some major search engines like
1. AltaVista
2. Msn (most popular)
3. Ask Jeeves
4. Canada.com
and several portals which i havent mentioned here. The key point to keep in mind when advertising on GOTO is monitoring of listings. You have to be very keen in bidding on your key terms. Always check the lowest bid you can put to get the position you require. I have seen very often that sites waste money very easily. for example
the bid for #1 position is $1.00
the bid for #2 position is $0.052
now always be sure to lower your bid if you were on the #1 position if such situation occurs. changing your bids is quite easy and yes GOTO observes a great customer supoprt too.
You may go for as much keywords as you like and this will not harm you at all. Keep in mind that your minimum monthly spending should be at least $20.

Good info farhan. MSN is being very deceiving by calling the GOTO listings "Popular". So far, they get the "Most Deceiving" award. No way in *ell are GoTo listings most popular.

Hi jgarris and welcome to the forum.
Pay per click search engines have many facets, but the two most important to my mind are:
1. The instant results that you see from instant listings and the fact that indivuals who click through are likely to be buyers rather than just browsers. This does vary with the product you are selling, but in the case of golf equipment I would think you could do quite well.
The trick is to make sure you are bidding on the right keywords, i.e. keywords actual searches are being conducted on.
While this may appear to be so simple as to be obvious this is where many go astray. For instance as a golf professional you may tend to think in more trade oriented or technical terms while the buyer may be searching for "golf clubs".
This cannot be overstressed as if you bid on keyword such as "Wilson Titanium Drivers" while the searchers on the PPC engines are searching for "Wilson Drivers" these searchers will never see your site in the search results, unlike conventional search engines where you may get partial matches.
There is also of course the financial considerations with PPC engines, as Farhan mentioned, making sure your bid is tops, but that you are not overbidding, and also continually monitering your ROI.
The most successful of the PPC entrepenuers seem to be those who bid on large numbers of keywords (sometimes thousands) and either have software or dedicated individuals to keep track of all the keywords, bids, and results.
2. You can also expect to get some additional returns from the many conventional search engines who are now including PPC results with their regualr results.
Hope this is helpful

Hi,
I don't think you need to buy a course on it, they are fairly easy to learn. If you need help, I'm willing to look at your site and offer my help (no charge).

making ppc profitable for retail:
Bid on WIDE variety of keywords, look for the bargains. Work the bid gaps. The more general terms get clicks but no buyers. The more specific the better.
You can bid on the general terms, just keep the bids really low. Even if your #37, it still might get some clicks.
I bid on about 200 terms, most of them only get like 1 click per day, but it's cheap, and it adds up.
Increasing your bids around the Holiday season is a good idea, people are more likely to buy.
My .05 cents (that's the minumum bid hehe)
